Meet Gizem Atalay | Motion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gizem Atalay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gizem, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe my path towards an artistic career unfolded quite naturally. Exploring and learning new things have always given me so much joy and excitement and I always loved turning all these into something new that is my own interpretation of what I experienced.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an individual in our modern society, and particularly as an artist, I believe it’s crucial to remain open to adapting to the changing world around us—something that is especially pertinent today. My artistic expression has increasingly embraced the digital realm, as reflected in much of my work. This shift towards digital mediums has not only broadened my creative horizons but also allowed me to connect with audiences in innovative and impactful ways.
It’s been a winding journey to get to where I am today, but I’ve embraced every obstacle along the way. Each challenge has taught me valuable lessons about life, helping me grow and learn through the twists and turns.
The most significant lesson I’ve learned from my experiences is the importance of being fully present and living in the moment, even during times of hardship. This approach has taught me to appreciate the here and now, understanding that each moment, whether challenging or joyful, holds value and offers opportunities for growth. Embracing the present has allowed me to navigate difficulties with resilience and find joy in the small, everyday experiences. It’s a practice of mindfulness that enriches my life, making me more aware of my surroundings, more grateful for my blessings, and more prepared to face whatever comes my way with a steady heart and open mind.
When it comes to my art, I try to embrace boldness, striving to capture viewers attention and draw them into the very essence of my work. For the commercial work I do, and especially for that, getting the attention of the viewer is the most important thing and also the hardest thing. Even if you manage to get it for a second, it is very easy to lose. For me, its about more than viewing: its about experiencing, feeling, and connecting with the art and design on a profound level. My intention with my work is to leave an indelible mark on the viewer, providing them with a memorible experience that sparks curiosity and wonder.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really enjoy taking my friends and family on hikes whenever they visit, with my favorite trail being Los Leones. The view from the top is breathtakingly rewarding and offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Additionally, Huntington Gardens is another spot I adore sharing with people. Its beautifully curated landscapes provide a serene and picturesque setting that I find very enchanting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Actually,I’ve been thinking about this recently. I think that everyone who has entered my life, whether they’ve stayed or left, has taught me something valuable. So, this shoutout is exceptionally broad but deeply heartfelt—it goes out to everyone! Each person has contributed a lesson to my journey, making this a very generous acknowledgment. Thank you all!
