We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I grew up in a family of educators. Many of my family members not only worked hard in their professional fields but also dedicated themselves to teaching young artists and designers, passing on the skills and experiences they had gained. I’ve always believed that while mastering your craft and gaining industry experience is important for your own career, but it’s even more valuable to share that knowledge with the younger generation—those with passion, talent, and fresh perspectives.

We’ve all worked hard to become part of our respective industries. But what comes next? Don’t we all want our industry to stay strong, continue growing, and remain a source of joy for consumers? The best way to ensure that is by nurturing the next generation of professionals.

Being open to sharing your insights and supporting others to improve our world has been one of the most important decisions I’ve made—and it’s greatly contributed to my own success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from General graphic designs, multimedia design, game UX/UI design to digital illustration, allowing me to develop a deep understanding of various digital art techniques and software applications. My academic background, coupled with my industry experience, has aligned me with the skills necessary to effectively teach and mentor aspiring artists.

Furthermore, as I experienced both liberal arts university, and art school, I understand the diversity of students and their different educational backgrounds. With my passion towards education, I wish to support in empowering every student to explore and develop their potential, regardless of their proficiency level. My goal is to ensure that each student gains unique insights and experiences that contribute to their personal and artistic growth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend is visiting the area, and I want to show them the best time ever, I would take them to the inner mongolia. As you walk in to the grassland you forget any concerns you had, truly able to focus in your inner self, and find inner peace. You can get enjoy fresh, locally sourced foods, including a variety of proteins, vegetables, and fruits. Riding a horse and meeting strong people who living fight through nature. For the evenings, we will spent time sipping a cup of tea under a starry sky. This trip would not just be a getaway but a rejuvenating experience that nourishes both body and soul.

As a designer I got inspiration from their traditional textile design, which features beautiful color palettes and geometric shapes. I believe our journey, maybe my friend’s first time and my second time, will teach us other valuable lessons as a human being and professional as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As I got closer to achieving my goals, I often struggled to trust my own abilities. I doubted whether I was truly worthy of the title I was aiming for. But during those moments of uncertainty, there were always people who believed in me and offered their support.

I want to express my appreciation to all my instructors who pass down their invaluable skills, broadened my perspective, and others who trust in me to reach my goals.

Without their encouragement and belief in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
