We had the good fortune of connecting with Titus Maz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Titus, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think behind any artist or musician there is a need to say something and express yourself in some way. Coming from an environment where there were musical directors and painters among my parents and ancestors i might have absorbed both the passion as well as the cynicism towards art. Passion lies in the spark and the fire that fuels the joy and beauty of performance, sharing your ideas and way of playing with others while cynicism means asking yourself question on what’s the meaning of it and realistically seeing all the flaws, the superficiality and even the vanity behind it sometimes. I chose to say something as an artist or musician as, first of all, playing an instrument has, long ago, become a physical need, plus i’m fascinated by the lifelong process of refining your craft, always finding new expressive tools along the way, even changing your taste and adapting your production to a new way of seeing things.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a musician, composer guitarist and producer. After working internationally for many years i moved to the UK ( London ) more than 6 years ago and i faced lots of challenges restarting again here from zero !

I found a really open minded and productive environment where i could both focus on my original music and work as a session musician.

This led me to do tours concerts and collaborations with different artists and enjoyed creating new stuff with really incredible musicians.

Throughout the years I also managed to spend some time in the US ( Mainly the west coast and Los Angeles ) where i had the opportunity to engineer some of my production and see how some great producers and musicians were doing it across the pond !

Aside from the gigging and touring i’ve done in Italy and Europe starting in the 90’s i have been recently involved in many different projects including the Lake of Stars Festival in 2017 which was an exciting tour supporting some of the best artists from Africa. The Return of the King Tour, and working with many artists in the MOTS ( Music Of The Soul ) Live shows, a show that showcases some of the best R&B, Funk, Soul artists from UK and internationally.

I have created and led different Jazz, Funk, Soul bands to club residencies and festivals and still coming back to enjoying club gigs after this worldwide lockdown !

Even though i am still mainly a musician, i keep on learning how to produce at my best and In my own home studio i am recording, producing and coproducing for my own solo projects, for other artists and both for records and soundtracks.

For example my new recent single ” Rewind ” is entirely self produced and features Tubby, an incredible eclectic pianist who is also is very active in the Indian music scene as well as other great musicians who operate worldwide : Kwesi Yvorra ( Drums ), Izalni Nascimento ( Trumpet ), Basile Petite ( Bass ).
And here again some L.A. rays of sunshine come back in the scenario as the single has been Mixed & Mastered by IRKO ( Jay-Z, Mac Miller, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Jennifer Lopez, Timbaland’s Pop Game, Sia …) who is a California based multi awarded sound engineer.

The lesson i’ve learned is : ” sit down.. ( or stand up ) .. and do it ! ” sometimes the simple act of sitting down and play or just sketching a chord progression or a melody can make you step away from a passing cloud, meaning a negative mental state, and would let your energy flow naturally to the right creative direction. Lots of different things helped me to keep the balance in this rollercoaster life including reading books, watching movies and documentaries finding mentors and experts along the way.. Even finding new good friends on ClubHouse amidst the worst days of lockdown ! after all we’re all in the same boat and it’s easy to share similar stories between artists and find a common ground.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
London, and UK in general is really full of incredible spots.. a coffee or a drink at the top of the Shard on a clear sky night or the many urban spots in East London would make you feel as the most metropolitan urban man ever but the next day you could go a few miles out and enjoy some real country life ! Talking about L.A. and California i remember the excitement of cycling all the way from Santa Monica Boulevard up to the Hollywood hills then stopping for a meal up there ! Incredible !
