Meet Grace McCarthy | Film Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace McCarthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace, how do you think about risk?
Actually, I am a person who has a hard time making decisions. I’m a Libra. However, if you asked someone who knows me on a professional level, they’d tell you I’m an extremely adventurous person who is always taking risks. When an opportunity comes my way, I almost always say ‘Yes!’. You can’t learn or grow without adventuring out of your comfort zone.
Just deciding to pursue art is a huge risk in itself. There is a low success rate, lots of competition, and you can never guarantee how your work will be received. I live under the philosophy that you should always try and make your dreams a reality because you can always regret not trying but you won’t regret believing in yourself, even if it doesn’t work. out the way you planned.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Of course it wasn’t easy. What is. easy? It’s still not easy today. You never know in this industry. I just finished a job where I was on top of they world, now I’m back to scoping out the next gig with projects in the hopper. Even when I’m. at my most ideal part of my career, I know I’ll still have times like this. But. that’s. the. risk you take being an artist.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA is a very exciting and eclectic city. I. would. take them to Venice Beach just to see the spontaneous, outlandish, side of Los Angeles. I’d take them down the canyon into Malibu to see the agriculture and a completely different side of LA. We would have to drive them through the mansions in the Hills and into downtown to see the economic disparity in this city. I know the spots to eat best in West Hollywood: Crossroads is an experience and The Butcher, the Baker and the Cappuccino Maker as well as MetHerAtABar are both a lot of fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m very lucky to have a family that has. supported a day-dreaming artist. My Uncle Matt was one of my biggest inspirations when I was a kid He was a director of community theater in Upstate New York, but, to me, it was as good as Broadway. He taught me the importance of staying true to your vision as an artist and to not cave to the status quo. Even a small production can be fabulous with a creative eye and a stubborn hand.
