We had the good fortune of connecting with Granny Wowzers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Granny, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I can remember, I have felt unheard. First as child no one understood, or cared to listen too . So I wrote stories , poetry, and made my own illustrations. Worlds where people could see me and hear me with understanding. Being in special education all my academic youth , in the 70’s to the 90’s . Made me feel silenced, a throw away kid , with no hope for the future. So once I found my voice through radio, becoming a published poet . Hearing how other people enjoyed or could relate to me . That made me want to help others to be heard . Now I am able to freely create and I know someone out there will appreciate it . Now I am able to help others feel the same , and see that it can happen .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an autistic person with adhd , my art is different. From my poetry , spoken word, to canvas and jewelry. I see things differently than most . I write from real life experiences, and my deep inner feelings. The way a speak my spoken word helps people to feel my words . My favorite spoken word I have written and I am most proud of is “To The Moon and Back “. This was written for my beloved Mother Moon . Expressing how I felt going through loosing my mother. She is mother moon , I was the night and my brother the sun . Another pice I have received great response from is “A New Side “ . This pice is about a man I called the One . How after a long time away after a breakup , he came back into my life . The way I am able to see him in a new way, that I didn’t before . A lot of people seem to be able to relate. All of my art whether it’s written or physically created, is emotional for me . One thing I am not able to do is create without feeling it . I pour myself into each pice , paintings are the most abstract and layered. Jewelry has physical challenges, to complete. So when I make a pice for you it is something special. Writing is a window into my thoughts and soul . It is therapeutic for me , and it is always from my life . My pieces are purely my experience, deepest feelings, dreams , and how I speak to myself. My earlier pieces were angry and full of pain . While I still right with some pain , and anger it has shifted. I can also write implied sensual, what I dream of and so on . Parents love when I share my spoken word about autism , both mine and about my son . Literally everything I write is a window into me . My biggest challenges have been the fear of no one being able to feel my pieces . So I am my worst critic. It is a challenge for me to share new pieces, once I have received good feedback. That’s when I go all in with the full spoken word performance. On radio and on my broadcast, it is easy to listen and allow people to tell their story . Playing new music from artists who would otherwise not have been heard is a blessing to me . My playlist is extremely long and continuously growing . The main challenge I have with interviews or submissions is time . Trying to fit people in where it works for them and myself . This is a ever evolving process. I do my best and will even offer a pre recorded interview. Lessons I have learned along the way thus far ..hmm . I would say is before the interview to have a small conversation. Let them know I do not curse , or use sexual explicit language. To also let them know roughly how long we will speak before taking a commercial break . Then how I like to wrap it up . It allows a person who is not use to doing interviews a mental layout. I’ve learned it helps the person being interviewed feel more comfortable. Something I would like people to know about me and my brand is : No matter what challenges you have , nothing is impossible. That everyone deserves to be heard , and you matter . Granny Wowzers is about people being heard . Music , poetry, spoken word, film , authors , inspirational stories, activism, injustice , comedy , whatever it is , you deserve to be heard . I am only a vessel to help you achieve that, and it makes me feel accomplished.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Ángeles is such a large county, packed full of exciting places and food . So I would have to individualize the itinerary . Someone like myself , we are definitely going to Eat . First we would start in Pasadena, walk down orange Grove towards the Rose Bowl . Walking down seco to Linda Vista . There are some beautiful homes along that street . However there is one particular house that has been featured in a few horror films . After looking at the house and taking a some pictures, continue down to the Rose Bowl . I would pick a day that the swamp meet is there . So many very interesting items and connections . Plus FOOD , street tacos are amazing , along with multiple options. The next day let’s go to downtown Los Angles to Olympic Blvd . Dress fashionably and with fashionable comfortable shoes . There are many choices of restaurants and the Grammy Museum. Along the sidewalk are many plaques to read and take pictures of , all associated with the Grammys. The Grammy Museum is historical and just absolutely beautiful. So we would enjoy all it has to offer . Soon as the sun goes down the whole area lights up and new restaurants , clubs and events become available. I don’t have specific places I’d say is the best , because all of it is great ! Just a few streets over on Figueroa is the Crypto.com arena where we can get tickets to watch a Lakers game , La Kings game , or any event happening during the time they come to visit . The arena is a magical place to see as is .But when a game is happening it really comes alive. The last few days I would definitely take them to our beautiful beaches , New port , Long Beach , Huntington , Dockweiler , where we can explore shops and the different views . Definitely have to have King Taco , Miguel’s , and Ruben’s taco’s truck . I have found some of the best flavorful food has come from street trucks and vendors . So definitely gonna be eating during their trip to So Cal . I’m not one to plan to a detail , I like to do stuff on a whim and exploration. However I will tailor it to a friends interest. Plus I’m alway open to new places and trying new food . Whatever we do, it is going to be fun and stomach filling.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
During a time of major financial, emotional, hardship and abandonment. I turned to social media . Started with TikTok, Instagram, then an app called stereo , that lead me to an app called Clubhouse. These apps helped me build my self confidence, helped me feel I could be ok . Clubhouse I met people I never thought I would ever have a chance to speak too . Writing coach Lynette Kincade , Michael Guinn , Magic Man Marcel , and many many more . Writing Coach Lynette Kincade , convinced me that I had talent and story to tell . She helped me build my confidence that I have something people need to hear . The way she believed in me by suggesting me to others , having me help host her speaking rooms . Giving me lead positions in writing rooms . Sending me opportunities for me to take advantage of, to further me as a paid writer. She also showed me how to promote myself and gave me tools to use to make promotions. I owe a lot to how much I know now to her . Lynette Kincade has gone on to do amazing things like Ted talks and holding huge writing conferences. Michael Guinn who I met through Lynette Kincade opened door for my poetry . He gave me an opportunity to be come a published poet in his chapbook. Which opened more opportunities for me to be monetized , to have my spoken word on all music platforms. It also opened an opportunity for me to be on a Roku network show called This That Pice . I help judge a lot of Michael Guinn’s spoken word contests . Now the magic man Marcel , aka NuMedia . Marcel is an amazing app developer. He has made several apps for some huge names . Like Chuck D from Public Enemy . Marcel created NuMedia , The Talk Tv Radio app , NuMedia Solo app , NuMedia Tv app , NuMedia app . These are the apps he owns and operates, this dose not include the numerous other apps he has created for other people. Marcel gave me an amazing life changing opportunity. For me to have my own radio show on his radio station. My show ran for two years on his station, allowing me to meet and interview many people. My name , and reputation grew from being on The Talk Tv Radio app . It opened doors for me to speak and intermix with celebrities. To have VIP access to special events . The way these amazing people I mentioned above have spoken to me and about me , have made such a difference. They may not know everything they have done for me , but they were a huge part.
