We had the good fortune of connecting with Linn Holmstedt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Linn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music has been a big part of my life since a very early age. I was always surrounded by music in the house I grew up in and started singing in choir at the age of 3. Some of my earliest memories is singing ”Oh happy day” with my mother. I always dreamt about having a career in music as a kid and when I became of age I just kind of went for it!
I started playing gigs with my band back home in Sweden at the same time as I was studying music full-time. I loved every minute of it, so I kind of just said to myself that this is what I’m going to do. Best decision I ever made!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer and artist, born and raised in Sweden. I started playing gigs with my first original band around the age of 15, always wanting to be like my idols from back in the day. I adored artists such as Stevie Nicks, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell (still do). After high school I moved to Los Angeles to study music and hop on to the next journey. I was 18 years old and so excited to follow in the footsteps of all time heroes.
Since then I’ve been doing a lot of background vocals for various artists, such as 2012 Australian X-factor Grand Finalist Julian De Vizio and Lee Brown (Phase Five).
I’ve been doing sessions – both for background and lead vocals – for various projects and it’s been so much fun!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them straight to the Viper Room. No question. The community is amazing, the nights put on there are awesome, the acts are great and it is just such a good hang. Being there is something I have truly missed during the pandemic.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off, I’d like to thank everyone in Sparam Entertainment for believing in me and for everything they’ve done. They’ve been a blessing!
I’d also like to give a shout out to my best friend, guitarist Marcus Lundqvist. He was my first friend and collaborator when I got to LA almost 3 years ago and we’ve been doing music together since! And he is a killer guitar player!!!
Last but not least, I’d to give thanks to my mentor and friend Tita Hutchison. She has taught me so much and been such a huge support, which I cannot thank her enough for. Very grateful!
