We had the good fortune of connecting with Graphic Tease and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Graphic, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
As a group, we tend to take our musical direction down unconventional paths. For the most part we don’t stick to typical song structures and we also don’t stick to any one genre. One day we could be making a pop punk song, and the next we could be doing an indie song. So in a way we don’t really pay any mind to it. At least, we don’t stress ourselves out trying to adhere to a standard that’s expected of us. Taking risks has played a pivotal role in our music because it helps us stand apart from the pack. A lot of the times we could be self conscious that maybe if we’re booked for a show with a lot of heavy/hardcore bands, we may stick out like a sore thumb- but in many ways that’s what gets us the most compliments from strangers and potential longtime fans.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets us apart is that our band is comprised of people of such diverse backgrounds. Not a single one of us is the same. We’re all just pieces that make up a bigger picture. As a group we’re so proud of our newest song Red Velvet, and the endless potential we have to expand on in the future. Getting to where we are today took a lot of trial and error. Line up changes and dissolution of relationships that certainly made the aftermath of navigating our band harder. It’s challenging when you fall out of love in a working relationship and it can get really messy. We just try to do what feels right for the band as whole. Some lessons we’ve learned as entertainers is that working in a live setting and a studio setting are two wholly different experiences with their own pros and cons. We’ve had to realize that if we mess up we can’t let it be the end of the world. We have to dust it off and keep the bigger picture in mind. Each of us have to play our parts to achieve the greater goal of the band. What we want people to know about us is that we like to take it a step at a time and that everything we do is a labor of love. We wouldn’t be doing any of this if we didn’t truly have a love and respect for the art of making music. We want anyone who listens to us purposely, or in passing, to feel the passion we have.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we can grab a bite at Ramen Hub off Atlantic. Then dessert next door at Somi Somi. Down the street is Coffee Drunk and Eclipsed Emporium if you want to get caffeinated and then shop for some goth apparel. If we want to empty our wallets we can go down to 4th street and thrift on retro row or drink and watch performances at The Vine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d love to shout out our supporters. Our families, friends and even complete strangers who have gone out of their way to come watch us play and stream our music. If we want to get real specific though, we have a lot of love and admiration for another band who play’s in the same scene as us, Flesh For Fantasy. They always find a way to come out and support us and we’d like to think of them as one of our closest band friends. Same goes for another band friend of ours, The Dekades. And last but certainly not least we’d like to thank past members of our own band: Suzanna Cantrell, Dylan Brott-Hunter and Domenic Iovine. A lot of the music we still play to this day would not exist without them.
