We had the good fortune of connecting with Gregg Hoffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gregg, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I graduated from Cal Poly SLO with a degree in ornamental horticulture. After graduating I decided to start my own business called Outside Matters when my oldest was born. Fast forward almost 25 years and my oldest was going to college in Germany.

I had recently bought a Big Green Egg and needed an enclosure to complete my own outdoor kitchen. While researching, I found the WWOO website headquartered in Holland and learned the Dutch brand was looking for licensees in the U.S.

So my wife Gina and I decided to take our oldest to Germany and jump over to The Netherlands to visit the WWOO headquarters and check out their manufacturing process. After the visit, there was no question that we had to bring WWOO stateside and incorporate the concrete outdoor kitchens into my landscaping business, Outside Matters.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
WWOO is different from other outdoor kitchen companies because our mission is to cultivate outdoor spaces where people can create lifelong memories with friends and family. We champion the principles of togetherness, consciousness of our environment, and sustenance. More than anything, we want people to spend time together, outdoors, in a community around delicious, nourishing food.

Not only that, but our design is different from any other outdoor kitchen on the market. There are 3 factors that differentiate WWOO. One is our minimalistic design. The open shelving allows a super sleek look, making sure there’s no nooks and crannies where furry things can hide. Two is our installation process. Because we pour all the pieces in our warehouse, our install only takes one day, two at most. Last is how customizable our kitchens are. We can integrate almost any appliance or accessory, and still maintain that minimalistic look.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
WWOO California is located in El Segundo which is right next to LAX airport. We’re a small but mighty town. I recommend checking out The El Segundo Brewing Company for the best brews, Slice and Pint for the best pies, and Fantastic Cafe for the best breakfast burritos if you need an extra boost the next morning.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Gina and my kids Mary, Julia, Grace, Charlie, and Lucy.
