We had the good fortune of connecting connecting with the band Royal Fools, Greyson and August Suchecki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Greyson and August, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Working alongside your identical twin brother is majorly helpful. We one hundred percent would not be where we are today without each other. Every time we face a rejection, or mess up a recording or fumble on stage we get to take a breath and remember the other one’s got our back. When Greyson’s working on the production, August is always able to suggest something new. When August writes a verse, Greyson is able to finish the chorus. We’re always working together, getting each other’s thoughts, and pushing the other one to improve.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There’s a lot of love behind Royal Fools. We are really committed to music, if we were stranded on a desert island we’d still be writing songs, also probably like swimming around and stuff. We’re really proud of our lyricism, especially on our new stuff. We wanna be able to make really fun, engaging music that still has deep and powerful lyrics. We’re also thrilled about how our production style has evolved. Greyson builds these massive walls of sound with his overproduced style, it’s sort of become a Royal Fools staple. He’s a multi-instrumentalist so there’s a lot of care and emphasis on every part of every song. We’re also super proud of the community we’ve been able to build. Playing live shows means we have been able to interact with loads of passionate, talented folks who like our music. It’s been super awesome!
We are really excited to release more songs! We have so many that we’ve been in the studio working on. We’re looking at an early fall drop for our next single, Bats in the Attic, which we can’t wait for everyone to hear!
It has not been an easy ride for sure. We’re two queer kids who grew up in a small town in Massachusetts playing rock at the highschool open mics. We had a rough home life growing up so we fought hard to get out west. Two years later we’re across the country pursuing music full time. Deciding to go to Los Angeles when we had no connections, no friends, and not a very clear plan was really scary but we never would have been able to get to the point we’re at if we were back east. We never would have gotten work in the industry, we never would have found our recording studio, we never would’ve met all of the amazing musicians and artists around us who push us to be better than was ever possible at home.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of our friends from Massachusetts came and visited not so long ago so we brought him out to do some of our favorite things. We went to a house show in Beverly Hills; a mansion party with all punk rock bands. We also took Bird scooters and raced each other through Bel Air at 3am. We like to go up there and see the beautiful views of the city we’ll never afford. We also took him out to Will Rogers Beach; if you’re going to LA you’ve got to go to the beach. Will Rogers is just a bit down PCH from the pier and the ferris wheel looks stunning from there at night. If we had a little more time with him we would’ve loved to take him to The Smell. It really encapsulates the young, underground music scene in LA today; the shows there always feel so magnetic.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my friends I made in freshman year of college. These folks showed up to every show, whether it was a five minute walk down the street or an hour drive away. They’re the people who have helped out on a few too many merch tables, taken our pictures and videos, and know the words to all of our songs. They have no idea the impact it makes to have people on our side, rooting for our success and helping us in any way they can. They’re the best people we know and we’re always talking about how lucky we are to have them.
