We had the good fortune of connecting with Guglielmo Cheso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Guglielmo, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
The answer is simple, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Sometimes it may feel hard to keep going and give it your absolute all if you are not seeing immediate result, but at the end of the day you’ve got to keep going and ignore the noise if you want to be successful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started off making skateboarding videos with my friends just for fun when I was around 10 years old, little did I know making videos would be my whole career.

As I grew older I kept making short travel videos until it was time to go to college. I ended up doing a Film Production (with a path in post production) course in London which is where I was living at the time. During my time there I really fell in love with video editing and how you can transform a bunch of clips into a beautiful piece of art.

During my years at college I had my ups and downs. I had a few editing gigs come my way but nothing much, I started wondering if I wasn’t good enough as I kept comparing myself to some incredibly talented people I saw online or that I knew. I got pretty unmotivated. Oh also covid happened right in the middle of college, pretty much ruining my studies and mindset.

Finally college and covid were over. I knew I had to make a switch and go all out in order to have the career I always dreamt of.
I’ve always wanted to move to LA, even when I wasn’t into film. One day parents suggested for me to take a film course in LA. Even though I always wanted to move there I wasn’t sure at first. I was kind of nervous to leave my whole life behind and start fresh somewhere new, even if I knew it would be very beneficial for me.

Finally I moved to LA where I attended a one year Filmmaking course, where to be 100% honest, I learned maybe 5 times as much as I learned in 3 years of college in London. During my time there I started learning a lot more about all the other roles and fell in love with cinematography and directing. I had really switched my mindset and started working harder than I ever had before, getting myself a bunch of freelance gigs as well while studying.
After graduating from that I started freelancing more while I was also applying to full/part time jobs until I managed to get an internship where I would film and edit videos. Motivation wasn’t what kept me going anymore, it was discipline. I kept pushing myself out of my comfort zone and stopped comparing myself to others. I became addicted to putting myself in uncomfortable situations and after my internship I managed to land an editing job (while still freelancing on the side) for The Professor, a well known professional streetball player with over 7 million subscribers on YouTube and a very successful streetwear brand called Global Hooper.

What I have learned over my journey so far is that comparison is the thief of success and discipline wins over motivation.
I am proud of myself for what I have achieved so far, but I am just getting started.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to the beach and all the beautiful places in nature LA has to offer. I love to go for walks at the Hollywood Reservoir at Lake Hollywood, so peaceful. To eat, Raisin Canes, my favorite fast food place out here for sure, crispy chicken and a banging sauce. It never disappoints.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my family who never failed to support me during this journey, no matter the circumstances.
