We had the good fortune of connecting with Gui Cha and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gui, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My photography seeks to capture the beauty of our environment, showcasing the diverse experiences that our world has to offer. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to travel to 27 countries so far, I’ve immersed myself in various cultures and landscapes. While I recognize that not everyone can visit all the places I’ve explored, I hope my work resonates with those who appreciate the beauty of their own surroundings.
I believe that every corner of the world has its own unique charm, and I encourage everyone to seek out local parks, community events, and hidden gems right in their hometown. There’s so much to discover just outside your doorstep! For instance, if you find yourself in the Los Angeles area, I highly recommend a visit to Angeles Forest. It’s one of my favorite spots, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful escape into nature.
Ultimately, my goal is to inspire people to reconnect with the natural world and to unplug from the distractions of technology. In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to lose sight of the beauty that surrounds us. Through my photography, I hope to remind you of the tranquility and inspiration that nature can provide, encouraging you to explore, appreciate, and find joy in the world around you.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been captivated by my surroundings, whether in a bustling city, the tranquil countryside, or a remote location. Sharing my unique perspective on the world has consistently brought me a sense of peace. I embrace every opportunity to travel and explore, whether venturing to a new destination or revisiting a familiar place. Each journey offers a new experience! In my pursuit to soothe my soul, I often encounter less-than-ideal weather. I once was told, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inadequate clothing.” Having the ability to capture the moment, no matter the conditions, is what makes it all worthwhile.
My career path has had numerous twists and turns, turning it to quite the adventure. In my late twenties and early thirties, I focused on building my career, taking on every freelance opportunity that came my way. I worked tirelessly, often sacrificing time off. The only period that rivaled this commitment was during my seven month deployment in the Persian Gulf with the Navy. Regardless of the career path you choose, there will always be something you have to sacrifice.I began by assisting photographers across various genres: architecture, automotive, beauty, fashion, commercial, celebrity portraiture, key art, travel, and campaigns. Over the years, I honed my skills in lighting different subjects on set. I had the privilege of meeting many talented individuals and have maintained those connections over time. Building a network and treating everyone with respect is essential; you never know where life will lead you or whom you might encounter along the way.
I’m a simple person. I would like to encourage everyone to be kind towards one another, we all face our own struggles. Embrace where you are in life and take the opportunity to appreciate the world around you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have a deep passion for camping and embarking on road trips, which allow me to explore the beauty of nature and create lasting memories with friends. Our adventure would kick off with a delicious breakfast burrito from Basecamp Dinette in Burbank—a perfect way to fuel up for the day ahead. Depending on the season, we’d escape to the high desert, seeking refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life. Our journey begins with a drive north on Highway 395 from Los Angeles, where the scenic landscapes transform around us.
Our first stop is the stunning Alabama Hills in Lone Pine. The dramatic rock formations and sweeping views of the Sierra Nevada create the perfect backdrop for adventure and exploration. We’d take the time to hike, snap photos, and simply soak in the beauty of our surroundings. As we continue our journey, we’d make a quick stop at Alabama Hills Cafe & Bakery for a quick refuel. This spot is a favorite among travelers, offering good coffee and freshly baked pastries. It’s the perfect place to recharge before hitting the road again. As we keep heading north, making our way to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest near Big Pine. This remarkable forest is home to some of the oldest living trees on the planet, and walking among them is a humbling experience. The twisted, gnarled branches tell stories of resilience and endurance, and we often find ourselves in awe of the history that surrounds us.
These camping trips not only allow us to connect with nature but also strengthen the bonds of friendship as we share laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments in the great outdoors.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Sofia, is an unwavering source of encouragement and support in my life. Her passion for the arts is truly inspiring; as a visual arts teacher, she dedicates herself to nurturing creativity in her students. Currently, she’s in her final year of graduate school at California State University Los Angeles, pursuing a degree in Technology Education Leadership. Balancing her studies with her teaching commitments showcases her incredible work ethic and dedication.
In addition to her teaching, Sofia is also a talented ceramist. She has been honing her pottery skills for several years, creating beautiful pieces that reflect her artistic vision. Watching her transform clay into art is a testament to her creativity and craftsmanship. Sofia’s passion for both teaching and ceramics not only enriches her own life but also inspires those around her, including me. I am grateful for her constant support and the artistic spirit she brings into our lives.
