Meet Guillermo Bale | Content producer & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Guillermo Bale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Guillermo, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I would say for me the balance has changed a lot throughout my career, In the upside, I think as we grow older, we learn how to be more efficient and do the work faster. We also learn how to menage our emotions better, so it becomes a little easier to leave work outside of home and not get so stressed with daily challenges at work.
In other hand, every year it becomes harder to draw a clear line between business and personal life. In the last decade, With the rise of smartphones and instant communication apps, people are expected to be online all the time. During most part of that decade, I had been working in advertising agencies with a client-facing role. As it became easier for clients to reach out, they started to expect faster responses and that the communication channel is always open, even outside of business hours. Now with COVID, it is even harder to draw that line, because millions of people literally started worked from home, dividing their time between meetings and feeding their child!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Storytelling is what drives me and that’s what my career has been all about. I started in advertising in Sao Paulo in 2010, helping awesome teams of young and creative folks to produce internationally awarded marketing campaigns, TV commercials and branded content for clients such as Microsoft (Windows), Pirelli, Samsung, Smirnoff, among others. Advertising is a very fertile arena for inspiring and entertaining pieces of content to come to life in every possible shape. Apps, social media, TV spots, podcasts, a web series…as long as people are engaging with it, those are all valid. From 2018 on, though, I have been focusing on entertainment projects. I got back to study, this time in LA, and I have been working for the last 4 years in multiple producing roles in awarded short films, feature film, music videos and web series since then.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Southern California has countless treasures and 1 week might be too short time to show everything I wanted too. However, there a few things that can’t be left out:
– one full day spent in Malibu, seeing different beaches. There are so many good restaurants with open terrace and beautiful views too.
– one weekend in San Diego. Beach during the day, fun bars during night.
– I really like the South Bay area, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa. It is all so nice and so many options for restaurants and bars.
– One thing that I like to do is to bike there from my place in Culver City. It is probably around 20-30 miles, but it is bike lane all the way up and the views are stunning. So, if you like biking, the Ballona Creek bike path is definitely worth to check.
– There are several good hiking spots, but the most iconic one probably is the hills by the Grifith Observatory, where you can get behind the classic Hollywood Sign.
– Joshua Tree. Especially if you are into climbing.
– If it is winter, a snowboard trip to Big Bear.
– When it comes to nightlife, probably a club or bar in DTLA or Hollywood.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my mom Maria Bale, woman of countless talents, who sparked my interest in arts and creativity at a very early age. Her sublime poems and photography have been inspiring me since I can remember.
