Meet Gustavo David | Actor/Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gustavo David and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gustavo, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success would be to spread uniqueness and authenticity, and that would be my success. If I am truthful with my path as an actor/artist, then I am doing my job. I don’t want to define my life nor my career, thinking that I need to fullfill an empty space in Hollywood, the cinema world, modeling, whatever to be successful…I just want to make it clear that we all have EXTRA space to just fill it with our presence and talents. I want my success to be someone’s inspiration, someone’s voice, someone’s courage, love and craziness (in a good way). If I got to do that with one person, then everything else is just temporary and materialistic, trophies, awards, recognition, etc, because seeing other people succeeding, even when I was a kid, I felt so much fire in my heart that it made me pursue my own things in my own way, which was really hard at the beginning, but shortly changed, because I start listening to people with passion, a good heart and vision… and most important, following my heart ALWAYS.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Every person in this world is unique. I know it sounds cliche and I like to repeat that a lot, but still, we are so unique that everything we do, even if we get inspired by others, will have our own essence based on our experiences and personality, so whatever we end up doing as an artist, would be our own unique creation.
Everyone is already ”sets apart from others”.
I am very proud of how recently I have noticed that everything that I have done, or decisions that I have made in my life and career, are based on how I feel in my heart, and I follow my heart so much, which makes me have the deepest proudness just noticing writing this interview on how I developed that much more around 2021-22-20023. Since I was a child, I have listened to my heart the most and I always do that, because it takes me to places and people that I love so much and sometimes are just experiences that we as adults and part of the paths we need to experience so we can grow artistically and personally.
I have started making short films and theater since 2014, and let me tell you, it was not easy, a lot of homophobic people in the industry from Panama, a lot of closed-minded people who like to take advantage of your innocence and curiosity as a new young artist. I love my country so much, but I do think there are people in the business of art that should be more into spreading awareness and support for the new generation when it comes to values, LGBTQIA+, feminism and culture. We as young adults/adults have the capacity and the need to be truthful and try our best to spread positive – right information about body image, self-awareness, love, gender and much more, so the new generation have an open space to be themselves and feel free to do much more of what we are doing nowadays. LA and MIAMI have been much more open when it comes to those topics that I mentioned, but we all know we are gonna have some encounters in this industry, and when that happens we need to remind ourselves who we are and what we came to do in this world, and I hope is to spread authenticity and values.
Challenges are made to build you, are made to make you stronger, to let you know that you have the capacity to overcome them in so many ways, there’s no loss if you don’t stop, you will only lose if you quit and I will never quit my passion and my voice. One of the most important things in the world that we have as artists is our voice, and I will speak up for others if they need to and for myself. I have overcome everything so far because I allow myself to feel everything, I allow myself to sit down with my feelings and cry if I need to or just be with myself for days because I only need my company. I will allow myself to stop for months if needed. Sometimes I call one of the closest people that I have and tell them how I feel, and so and so, it is very important to have close friends in your life that you can trust and respect your private life-viceversa.
Lessons that I learned is to keep it truthful. If you do something that goes against your gut and feelings, it is gonna be a hard path, your body will let you know. I want the world to know that my brand is myself, my thoughts, my feelings, emotions and curiosity. I can get mad-crazy when I have an idea for a self-short film that I want to do, and I will do the craziest thing ever, and maybe no one would understand it, or just one person, but I will keep doing things just for the sake of my soul telling me to do that idea, to open my imagination till I reach the galaxy, becausae the galaxy’s the limit. I do the things that I do because I enjoy them so much creating them, or being part of someone’s idea or creation as an actor/artist. And to be honest, it is very nice to have an audience to share your stuff (social media), and they would appreciate it and so and so. But honestly, it has been a long path, and I just stop worrying about who would like this and that. The one that should like that creation should be me and then the rest would come organically. Don’t pigeonhole yourself. In fact, think about how much more we have outside of this planet. It is crazy if you think that you deserve to put your imagination inside a box.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are my rock. They’ve been so supportive of my career, even though they don’t understand a lot of things that I do (sometimes I’ll show my mom a picture of me with a crazy outfit or just a crazy scene in a short film and she is like: Wao thats beautiful 🙂 – haha), they always try their best to understand and make me feel supported. I am very grateful to have the unconditional love and support that sometimes we forget we have those things and we take it for granted, but if we take a little time to open our mind and heart, it will show up.
Thank you Mom and Dad. Los amo.
