We had the good fortune of connecting with Guy “G-Swift” Rutembesa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Guy, how do you define success?
I define success by doing what makes you feel alive. What makes you excited to wake up in the morning and go after your goals and build whatever it is you’re passionate about. I cannot imagine living a life where you’re always dreading waking up in the morning and living for the weekends because that’s when you feel most alive. Don’t get me wrong majority of people have to go through that phase of dreading what they do while they figure out their long term plan but definitely find a way to climb out of that pit because it’s no way to live as far as I’m concerned. Peace of mind and happiness is how I define success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a rapper/storyteller what definitely sets me apart is my subject matter and basically the life I’ve lived up to now since everything that I write reflects my life. As a young kid that moved to Los Angeles from Kigali Rwanda at the age of 19 about to turn 20 and having to go through everything I did to get to a point where I could start doing what I’m really passionate about is in itself great subject matter. The life lessons I’ve learned, the different type of people who’s paths I’ve crossed, e.t.c… while also being entertaining to me is what sets me apart and I plan on exploring and exploiting that more and more because I feel like I’m just barely scratching the surface. Strap in for a ride we’re in it for the long run. I’m an actor as well and that is how I got to Los Angeles. To attend theatre school and I love it. Anything to do with expression I’m deeply into it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well. We would definitely the beach. Either Santa Monica, Malibu, Venice or all. I love bossanova so I’d definitely take them there to grab something to eat, mama shelter as well, secret in Hollywood as well I really like that place. For a night out I’m into lounges where you can just chill and vibe with your people and Kaffe rouge in studio city would definitely be a place I’d take them. Now if we’re clubbing clubbing we’d go to Maybe playhouse In Hollywood, the reserve downtown, lock and key in koreatown, e.t.c…

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a couple of solid people in my life that inspire me to keep going and getting better. First off my folks. Mum and pops, crew I make music with Tony Jones and Eric emery, Oscar emegano who always offers me free advice, Jean Luc the same, And there’s others and hope they all know I highly appreciate them Book that comes to mind that really gave me some insight and helps me grow as a person has to be “the subtle art of not giving a Fuck”. Great book on how to focus on the task at hand and shut out any outside noise like self doubt, other’s opinions, e.t.c… that try to hold you back.
