We had the good fortune of connecting with Gwendolyn Cody-Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gwendolyn, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am most inspired by love, despite the seemingly shortage of it in the world today. Genuine love is so much needed.  Love has been defined as a set of emotions and behaviors characterized by intimacy, passion and commitment.  I would also offer the biblical definition, which involves patience and kindness.  Love does not dishonor others; neither is it self-seeking. Love can be taught, but the best way to extend it, is to display it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Gwendolyn CodyDavis is a native of Thomasville, Georgia, and is a product of Thomas County Schools.

Gwendolyn has been privilege to serve as a civil servant in Belgium, Washington, D.C., Italy, and Richmond Va. over the last 30 years. She is presently employed at the Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as a Customer Account Specialist.

She has been a minister of the gospel for 30 years as well, and presently serves as a licensed and ordained Elder at Blessed Hope Community Church located in Prince George, Virginia. There, she serves under the anointed leadership of Bishop C.E. Wiley, Senior, and Pastor Amelia J. Wiley.

In 2015, I received a prophecy from my Pastor, Bishop Wiley, that I would write a book and through it, a family legacy would be birthed. It was not easy, and most definitely not one of the things I ever desired to do. However, I moved out on faith. It took me a while to complete it, but I believe it was released at the right time, the 9th month of a global pandemic–December, 2020.

There were many challenges to write and self-publish. But the best thing that came out of it, to help me to overcome each one, was the mentorship of an award-winning Book Publisher, and Founder of MegaMind Media, Tressa Azarel Smallwood. Along with Tressa came other like-minded individuals known as VIPs, who encouraged and inspired me to release to the world, “Love Letters from the MuM”.

My gift is to encourage, motivate, and inspire.
I will always treasure mentorship.  It is the key to your success with any project. You will find as time passes, you will have your own mentees to pour into—- which is what life is all about…. people helping people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend visiting the area to the following places:

1. The Crocker Spot Restaurant – Petersburg Va. & Ms. Girlee’s Restaruant – Richmond Va.
2. The African American Museum – Washington D.C.
3. Williamsburg Outlets-Williamsburg Va.
4. Short Pump Town Center- Richmond, Va.
5. Blessed Hope Community Church – Prince George, Va.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my husband of 41 wonderful years, Randy M. Davis. I call him my African King, however, he is also my best friend, and confidant. He prays for me daily. He protects and supports me unselfishly. I would also like to shout out my Mom Thelma L. Cody, for teaching me about the love of God. Shout out to our sons, Ryan and Reagan, for catching the family vision (people helping people), and running with it.  Last but certainly not least, our lovely daughter-in-loves, Kiandra & Jessica, for bringing love, care, joy, and excitement into our family unit.
