Meet Haleh Mashian | Artist & Owner of MASH Gallery

We had the good fortune of connecting with Haleh Mashian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Haleh, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I am being creative, I am being aligned with God, the divine, a higher intelligence…or whatever other name you want to give it. It’s very pleasurable and invigorating when I am in that creative space. It’s being in the moment and living courageously. It’s a journey to figure out who I am through self-expression. I feel like my path of creativity takes me to my inner being, and puts me in touch with the essence of life that is bliss.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is what sets others apart from me–everyone’s energy is unique! No two people are the same. I am excited about creating art because it’s an exploration of a deep-rooted inner calling that somehow appears before me. I believe in art for the sake of art. That has been my curatorial approach for Mash Gallery. I select art that embodies true craftsmanship and resonates deeply with the heart and soul.

I typically work in various series, aiming to create a cohesive body of work for each one. This approach allows me to delve deeper into specific subject matters and explore a range of mediums, techniques, and expressions while remaining within a unified theme. My inspiration stems from a blend of imagination and a strong attraction to subject matter, composition, color, and the interplay among these elements. This process enables me to fully engage with my artistic vision and create more meaningful pieces.

I’m incredibly proud of my latest collection, currently on display at Mash Gallery. This series offers a unique interpretation of the natural world, with a specific focus on trees. I’ve experimented with a variety of mediums, layering them in intriguing ways that range from mysterious to playful, creating fantastic expressions. It has been a joyful experience to let my imagination soar as I explore different materials and innovative approaches to interpreting nature.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Mash Gallery, haha! Our openings are always thrilling! It’s amazing to see a diverse crowd come together—artists and nonartists, conservative to edgy, and appealing to all age groups and backgrounds. It’s incredible to witness how individuals connect with different pieces of art in real time. Bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds to create a unified thematic exhibition feels truly magical. This unique experience showcases the power of art in uniting people and celebrating its beauty.
