Meet Han Wang | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Han Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a cinematographer, my art focuses on storytelling through visual language, using lighting and composition to create compelling narratives. I aim to capture emotions and atmospheres in films, providing audiences with an immersive viewing experience. My work is known for its nuanced handling of light and distinctive visual style.
I am most proud of my involvement in several impactful film projects. For instance, in one film I worked on, I skillfully used natural light to create an atmosphere that reflected the characters’ internal conflicts, earning praise from audiences and critics alike.
Achieving my professional status was not easy. In the early stages of my career, I faced challenges in finding my personal style and expanding my network. Through continuous practice and learning, along with guidance from industry mentors, I gradually established my shooting style and career path.
I’ve learned several important lessons along the way is Collaboration. Filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and working closely with directors and crews is crucial for success.
As a cinematographer, my work is not just about creating images but about conveying emotions and ideas through visuals. I hope to inspire audiences to discover the depth and details within films, encouraging new insights and reflections with each viewing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I believe the person I am most grateful for is my university professor, Dejan Georgevich, from the Cinematography Department at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and also the National Vice President of ICG. Our relationship is both that of a mentor and a friend. During my time at school, Dejan was always generous in sharing his knowledge, and whenever I had questions about photography, he was willing to guide me tirelessly after class. Not only did he support me academically, but he also became a respected elder in my life. After my father was diagnosed with cancer in 2022, I went through a period of emotional turmoil, and it was Dejan who helped me open up and see things more clearly. I am especially grateful to this remarkable professor.
