We had the good fortune of connecting with Han Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Han, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in the States as an international student at the age of 15. When I first moved to New York, I lived with around 6 different host families. This experience has sculpted many aspects of my personality. Since I was constantly switching environments, I quickly learned to be adaptable and compatible with people from different cultures. These qualities have helped me later on in school with group projects and connecting with professors. Another advantage of moving around a lot is discovering where your passion lies. Despite everything around me changing, I realized art was always what I enjoyed. Lots of alone time has made me quite the dedicated artist and able to enjoy working on pieces for long hours. Although there were tough times, I am very appreciative of my past experiences. I believe all the lessons I’ve learned along with the values I have formed are milestones in my adolescence and will continue to help me grow as I move forward in life

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my late high school years, I made a decision that would change the rest of my career path, which was to put a halt to my plan to become an opera singer and picked up an unfamiliar friend called art. However, what I learned in opera training has continued to show through my study of art. From vocal practices that lasted 10 hours a day to 10 hours of painting studios. From losing my voice trying to reach a new octave to enduring pain in my neck trying to finish a drawing. Parallels can be drawn between many aspects of my old career to what I enjoy pursuing now. I am proud to say that I am resilient and enthusiastic about art because I not only made a firm choice in choosing art but also integrated what I have learned from other areas of my life to help me become the best I can be in whichever I choose to pursue. Having the experience of studying in another field creates something unique and believing in your uniqueness is quite important in artistic creation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have lived in several different places in my life but I have to say Southern California is honestly the best. It is definitely a place for a great visit, with it all the natural scenery, vibrant food culture, cute-ed tech, and scenic spots, but there is much more to be enjoyed beyond what I can write. If I had to plan a one-day itinerary, I would definitely have to take my friend to Newports beach. We will have to take a ride on all the ocean experiences there. We can start with a jetski ride to take in all the view around the port, then after a good meal, we will be just in time to be out in the ocean again for whale siting. Once we’re all burnt out from our daytime activities I would take my friend to Culver City for a dinner surrounded by the atmosphere of florescent decorations. I personally love Culver City for its film and later television development culture, plus the food is amazing as well. I think my friend would share a lot of these same interests as me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Over the years, a great number of people helped me through my artistic path. First of all, I am so grateful for what I receive from God every single day. Despite all my appreciation for friends and family I especially want to give a big shoutout to Sharron art center which is an art organization that initially recognized my talent in art and pointed me in the right direction when choosing between universities. This organization has later on provided me with more opportunities to give talks about my own skills and interpretation of art. These experiences have not only furthered my knowledge but helped me develop social skills that I am extremely grateful for.
