Meet Hank Nelken | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hank Nelken and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hank, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Half Price Laundromat is our commitment to exceeding customer expectations through hyper-personalized service, strong community outreach, and creating an unmatched experience in our locations.
We go beyond just providing a place to do laundry—we create a fun, exciting environment where customers feel valued and appreciated. Our hyper-personalized service ensures that every customer’s needs are met with care, whether they use our full service pickup and delivery or self-service at one of our laundromats. We also engage in community outreach, building strong relationships with local schools and Chambers of Commerce and giving back to the neighborhoods we serve.
By focusing on more than just laundry and turning each visit into an unforgettable experience, we’ve built trust and loyalty, making Half Price Laundromat a preferred choice for our customers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The journey to where I am today in business has been one of perseverance, strategic decision-making, and a deep understanding of customer needs. From the very beginning, I recognized that success in any industry hinges on providing value—whether through convenience, affordability, or an enhanced customer experience. That belief shaped the foundation of Half Price Laundromat and continues to drive its growth.
Half Price Laundromat thrives because it fills a critical gap in the market: offering high-quality laundry services at an affordable price. By prioritizing efficiency and customer satisfaction, we’ve built a brand that resonates with people from all walks of life. The key to our success lies in a few fundamental principles.
First, we focus on affordability without sacrificing quality. Many laundromats charge premium rates, making routine laundry a financial burden for some families. By optimizing our operations, leveraging cost-effective equipment, and minimizing unnecessary expenses, we’re able to pass the savings on to our customers.
Second, we placed a strong emphasis on convenience and cleanliness. People don’t just want a laundromat—they want a space that is well-maintained, easy to use, and welcoming. We’ve invested in modern machines, clean facilities, and user-friendly payment systems, ensuring that every customer has a seamless experience.
Finally, our success is built on community engagement. A laundromat isn’t just a business; it’s a service that directly impacts people’s daily lives. By listening to our customers, responding to their needs, and fostering a sense of trust, we’ve created a loyal customer base that keeps coming back.
Half Price Laundromat isn’t just about washing clothes—it’s about making life easier and more affordable for the people we serve. That commitment to value and service is what sets us apart and ensures our continued success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend were visiting Los Angeles, I’d want to give them a true taste of the city—a mix of local gems, classic eats, and iconic sights.
First, we’d stop by all three locations of Half Price Laundromat—a quirky and unexpected tour, but one that would undoubtedly set the tone for a fun and offbeat adventure through LA. After that, it’s time for some food. For a classic Mexican meal, we’d head to Casa Vega, a dimly lit, old-school institution where the margaritas flow generously, and the enchiladas never disappoint. Of course, no trip to LA is complete without a visit to *In-N-Out*, where we’d order Double-Doubles, preferably Animal Style, and enjoy them either in the car with the windows down or perched at a picnic table, soaking in the California sun.
To balance out the indulgence, we’d hit the trails at Runyon Canyon, taking in sweeping views of the city and maybe even spotting a celebrity or two. There’s something about standing at the top of that trail, looking out over the vast sprawl of Los Angeles, that makes the city feel both infinite and intimate at the same time.
Finally, we’d end the day with a stroll along Santa Monica Beach, watching the waves crash against the shore as the sun sets in a golden blaze over the Pacific. The mix of street performers, skaters, and the hum of the pier in the background creates a perfect final note to the day—a reminder that LA is as much about its energy as it is about its sights.
It’s a day of contrasts—old and new, indulgence and activity, city and nature—all of which capture the essence of what makes LA so special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
