We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Chong Meyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah Chong, what principle do you value most?
Although I’m also still working on this, I value honesty and authenticity the most in my life. Today we are all bombarded with social media and contents that tell us what we should be and what we shouldn’t be. We seek for approval of others so we tend to disguise ourselves into someone we are not. As an artist who is seeking for attention, I can’t deny that I sometimes fall for this trap. But It just seems that people like my works the most when I just genuinely enjoyed working on them and didn’t consider the other people’s reaction. So I decided always being true to myself as the #1 principle I shall aim for all the time. Because I like myself and my work when I’m being genuine, and people like that too!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love creating original characters, and make stories out of them. It isn’t easy when you want to turn hobby into something professional. It becomes a whole different story! I had to learn to do more practical skills and really build up the fundamental knowledge of art when I decided that this will become my profession.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It is really hard for me to decide because California is full of fun places… but I’d definitely take them to the Grand Central Market for food. This place is an absolutely fantastic food spot in LA with lot of different types of food from all over the world, I’d also take my friends to Abbot Kinney Boulevard. This street is filled with boutiques, art galleries, and great coffee/tea shops! What we would call a very “heap” place with modern vibe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes! I have so many people to thank to. All of my fellow artist friends who inspires me everyday with their amazing works, and my mentor. I’m so thankful and lucky to have such a great, encouraging people in my life.
