Meet Harrison Baum | Founder, CEO & Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Harrison Baum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Harrison, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve noticed that people have been quick to label me as a “risk taker”, even more so because I invested all my savings into a traditionally “risky” industry. But I have always disagreed with this. I like to think I don’t take risks, only confident and calculated decisions. When I walked out of my 9-5 and gave up all stability in my life, it looked like a risk. But from my perspective, it was the only choice. Failure was not an option and it was not even conceivable. And even if the business went under, I would’ve learned so much that I would not have “failed”. I think taking a risk would be investing all my money into the lottery, that seems risky. But starting a business or initiative never seems like a risk, just a calculated decision that I know is going to be successful.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Daily High Club is the world’s most popular smoking subscription box and online bong company. Founded in 2015, the idea of a $1 smoking subscription box immediately saw traction from a single Reddit post. Daily High Club boasts 600K+ social followers, and high-profile fans including Tommy Chong, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, B-Real, Chanel West Coast, and more. In addition to monthly themed boxes (like its popular Tommy Chong box, Halloween box and Pride Box), Daily High Club is also renowned for its fun, high-quality custom glass bongs. These bongs come in colorful shapes and sleek designs by Daily High Club including its Scientific Bongs, Dank Tank Bong, Weapon of Grass Destruction and more. Getting here was not easy. I’ve had bank accounts frozen, the cops come to my house, and many more struggles. At the end of the day, having a strong team and knowledge of what you’re doing can overcome any obstacle. We are a legal business and we are all knowledgable enough to prove that. I’ve learned that no matter how humble your beginnings are, the opportunity for the American Dream is still there. People like to proclaim that is is dead or there is no way to jump from one social class to another. I will admit it is harder than ever, but I want the world to know there will always be a way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sunken City is unbelievable. A bunch of mansions slid into the sea and you can climb the foundations. There are even roads sticking up straight into the sky, all along the gorgeous palm tree lined Pacific Ocean. Everything is covered in art that constantly changes and evolves. Truly a world class gem. I’d also check out Sandstone Peak. It is the highest point in the Santa Monica mountains and offers unparalleled views of Malibu and Los Angeles. Then go to El Matador Beach after, right down the hill at the end of Yerba Buena Road. You might recognize it from some epic movies! As far as food, I really have enjoyed Tocaya Organica and Top Shelf Tacos. I’m a huge fan of Mexican food and these guys are next level. Grand Central Market downtown also has an amazing selection of local cuisine and is in a historically important and diverse location. While you’re downtown, you also should check out 71Above! It is the bar at the top of the US Bank tower, one of the highest points in the city. I am not sure what the status is due to covid, but I would definitely recommend checking out that area anyway.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate the shoutout to our warehouse workers. Not just because of how they pack the boxes that go to customers, but because of their potential. Our best exec team members all started in the warehouse. Our COO and Chief of Staff both started packing boxes at the lowest pay grade. Some of them make six figures now. Even I started packing boxes! I think it’s really cool to see people start on the ground floor and move their way up. I know someone working the floor right now will be one of the future leaders of the company too.
