Meet Harut and Lusine Lunamore Music | Harut and Lusine, husband and wife duo

We had the good fortune of connecting with Harut and Lusine Lunamore Music and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Harut and Lusine, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Being musicians who incorporate various languages and genres into our repertoire can certainly involve taking risks, but it can also be incredibly rewarding both artistically and professionally. We perform in English, Spanish, Armenian, Italian, and French, to name a few, and it has opened up horizons for us to reach different audiences. While it’s always safe to perform within a single theme, once you take the risk to expand your sphere of performance and delve into new genres and languages, you suddenly open up your music to more music lovers. We have experimented with blending different musical genres together to create a unique sound. This helped us to stand out as artists and attract a diverse audience. It was a risk worth taking.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our repertoire often involves transcribing music that may not have traditional notation. For instance, we take orchestral pieces and adapt them for our duo, imbuing them with a fresh perspective. This process breathes new life into the music, offering a unique interpretation that resonates with our audience. Moreover, we are passionate about preserving old folk songs that are on the brink of extinction. Through transcription, arrangements and performance, we ensure that these cultural treasures endure, passing on their legacy for generations to come. In our journey to represent a diverse range of music, spanning from Armenian Folk to modern Flamenco, we confronted the challenge of embracing the notion that music knows no boundaries. This realization prompted us to broaden our musical horizons and embrace various genres without hesitation. By doing so, we not only expanded our repertoire but also grew more adept at engaging with diverse audiences, ultimately becoming more versatile performers.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If we were hosting a friend visiting Los Angeles for a week, there’s an abundance of hidden gems we’d love to showcase. Our itinerary would begin with a leisurely day exploring the city via tour bus, stopping by a few museums along the way. For dinner, we’d treat our guest to a memorable dining experience at La Papillon restaurant, one of our personal favorites. Another highlight would undoubtedly be a day trip to the Disneyland parks, followed by a scenic drive up north to Santa Barbara and the charming Danish village of Solvang. We’d indulge in wine tasting at Lucas & Lewellen Winery, savoring the cozy ambiance of the town. In Southern California, a visit to San Luis Obispo would be a must, where we’d spend a day strolling through downtown and enjoying tastings at Claiborne and Churchill, taking in the refreshing outdoor views. To finish the trip we would go to Temecula and enjoy live music at Miramonte Winery. With so much to explore, we’d opt to minimize traffic and fully immerse ourselves in each destination for a memorable experience.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Both of us have been immersed in music since childhood, starting our journey as musicians at a young age. Fate brought us together when we crossed paths while teaching at a music school. Our connection blossomed into love, and from that shared passion emerged our musical duo. Supported by our families who encouraged us to pursue our childhood dreams as careers, we embarked on this path together. Our families’ unwavering support has been instrumental in our journey and they played the biggest role in all of this. Additionally, we’ve had the privilege of being trained by world-class maestros, honing our skills and enriching our musical repertoire along the way.
