Meet Hawthorne Oachs | Musician & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hawthorne Oachs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hawthorne, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music and art have always been something I’ve done, for as long as I can remember. As a teenage observer of the world, creativity is how I make sense of everything. When I realized the possibility that something I’ve created might have a positive effect on someone else, I recognized that the universe could be pulling me towards a personal mission. We live in absurd times, and choosing to share music with the public was not an easy choice for me to make. It took a lot of introspection and self-reflection. I discovered that one of my missions is to help others through music and connection by writing about issues and experiences that affect teens, and many adults.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hi! I’m Hawthorne Oachs and I’ve spent the last 3 years of my life writing, producing, and releasing songs while also balancing being a full-time student, playing my first festivals, comic book stores, airports, coffee shops, wineries, and dreaming up different ways to get the music out to those who need it most. It’s been a path filled with abundant lessons and growth. I can recognize powerful learning opportunities and be open to what those lessons are teaching me. Every roadblock or disappointment has been just as much of a valuable and teachable moment as the successes have been, and the latest growth can be confirmed in the new music I am releasing this year.
I’m elated to share that my newest single ‘Runaway Bunny’ will be out everywhere on June 6th! There is a lot more music coming after that, so I hope you will look forward to it.
Since I started writing and releasing music, I’ve also been producing the songs and creating the cover art for them. Production is a very different process than the songwriting process is. Learning all of the details that go into production is a skillset that I’ve been growing ever since I started releasing songs, and I’m eager to share all of the new music I have planned for 2024.
I’ve also started my summer/fall schedule of live shows. This will be my second season of performing my music live, which is so different than being in the studio. Both playing live and being in the studio are really fun and exciting, but they are very different from each other!
It was not an easy decision to put music out there for judgment. Society can be dismissive of kids. We are living in some absurd times, and sharing anything creative can be a vulnerable step to take. I went back and forth about the decision to share music, and I kept asking myself what the mission was. If anything I’ve released helps even one person in some way, or connects people to each other, then my mission to put something out there that might make the depressing haze of our modern world more tolerable will have been a success. I hope that sentiment is something people take away from my music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the following: My parents for endlessly supporting my bold ideas, Ali for being a music industry big sis to help guide me, venues who booked me, press/media who have made a space to share my story and music, ABF for including me as a Trailblazer, and last but not least THANK YOU to anyone who has listened to these songs and maybe even found safety and/or solidarity in them. Everything that has happened (or will happen), is a shared success. Together, we will defy the notion that kids should be seen and not heard!
