We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Knight-Willcock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Finding the right work-life balance has been an evolving journey for me. In the earlier stages of my career, the drive to establish my business often took center stage, and it felt like a perpetual hustle. As time went on and I started a family, I recognized the importance of maintaining a healthier equilibrium.

Now, I approach work-life balance as a dynamic harmony. I’ve learned that it’s not about splitting time evenly but rather prioritizing moments of presence in both realms. I’m fortunate to love what I do, and that passion often blurs the lines between work and personal life. However, I’ve become more intentional about setting boundaries, allowing myself dedicated moments for family, relaxation, and personal pursuits.

It’s a continuous journey of self-discovery and adaptation. I’ve come to appreciate that a well-balanced life not only fuels creativity and productivity in my work but also enriches the quality of personal moments.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is not just a design firm; it’s a manifestation of passion, creativity, and the unwavering belief that spaces can tell stories. What sets us apart is not just the aesthetics we curate but the personalized touch we infuse into each project. Getting to where we are today has been a journey of dedication and evolution alongside clients who really believe in what we are doing. The path wasn’t always easy being a solopreneur, but every challenge became an opportunity to grow. Coming from a background in fine art operations taught me the craft of meticulous planning, a skill that has been invaluable in running my design business. Its a lot more than tile choices and pillow chops!

The lessons along the way have been profound. I’ve learned the importance of adaptability, the beauty of collaboration, and the art of finding balance. It’s not just about creating beautiful spaces but fostering an experience where clients feel heard, understood, and part of the creative process.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that we are not just about design; we are about creating moments. Our story is one of passion, dedication, and the belief that every space has the potential to be a canvas for unforgettable experiences.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start our day at Coffee Parlor – my brother’s coffee shop that has a killer, scratch kitchen menu. Once we were fueled up we could go on a bunch of adventures – from paddle boarding, taking a duffy on the water or just cruising along the best main streets – Vintage Row on 4th, 2nd Street, 2nd & PCH, the Hanger. These streets have TONS of do including shopping and eating and drinks. Other days we could do day trips to some of the more visually appealing parts of So Cal – including hikes in Crystal Cove, hiking in Big Bear or local wine tasting in Temecula.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special shoutout goes to my incredible husband, Steve – my unwavering champion and pillar of support. In this whirlwind journey of entrepreneurship, his encouragement, love, and belief in my dreams have been the driving force behind every success. To the man who understands the dance between ambition and balance, thank you for being my partner in both life and business.
