We had the good fortune of connecting with Helen Lugo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Helen, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
How incredibly fulfilling it is to be a part of someone’s self care journey and watching their confidence grow with each service. When a client receives their facial service, they are making an intentional effort to care for themselves and it’s so necessary for our mental, physical, and emotional health. It’s truly an honor to be a part of someone’s self love exploration.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I became a young mom at 20 years old. I have always loved the beauty industry which led me to become a MUA (makeup artist). I struggled with hereditary cystic acne and was able to relate with my clients when I did makeup jobs and understood how difficult and embarrassing it was to deal with skin issues.
Soon after, I decided that becoming a skin care specialist was my next path and had to find a way to go back to school. After quitting my stable job I hustled my way through odd jobs so I could get my esthetician license and quickly started working at a medical spa.
I found my passion in helping those with acne and other skin conditions. Helping transform their skin and see their confidence shine through is where my purpose lies. During the pandemic I decided to finally work for myself and create a safe space where I can give my clients the personalized attention they deserve.
Being a freelance makeup artist gave me the skills needed to work for myself, therefore, becoming a business owner was a natural progression for me. I am going into my third year in business and I am always striving to be the best skin care practitioner possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t have any specific places, but we are in Cali where the mountains and beaches are just an hour away in any direction. We can eat oysters by the beach, have a wine tour in Temecula or go hiking in Big Bear.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son who will always be my why. I strive to always do better & be better because he’s watching. My boyfriend who’s been by my side since high school and we continue to love & support each other. My siblings who are my best friends, and confidants. They are the dream team. I am the baby of the family and my brother and sister raised me to be the strong, confident, intuitive, loving, person I am. I run everything by this group of people. I would definitely not have the success I do if it wasn’t for them.
