We had the good fortune of connecting with Esha Tewari and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Esha, what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
DON’T STOP. KEEP MOVING. LEARN ALONG THE WAY The most important thing that I have learned along my journey is that whatever the situation you face in life- good or bad- Don’t stop, keep moving and learn along the way. There are good & bad times in life. We enjoy the good times but many times in life when things don’t move in the direction we want them to, we feel disappointed but the key is to not stop at that point and keep moving. This is what keeps me going and motivated to do my part of the job all the time. Then success and failure become a factor of time- not all the time you will be successful, neither you will fail always. We have no control over good times nor on the bad times but it is up to us how we want to feel during each time. So why not be the same at all times as nothing is consistent. It may sound like a lot of philosophy, but this is what I follow and works for me all the time. I am an MBA in Human Resources and have 8+years of experience working with multinational corporates. Along with that, I also did modeling assignments, commercials, theater (off-broadway shows in New York), and then entered into the film world. Things are never the same when you switch paths but it is this philosophy which always helped me. It is that due to which I was able to learn so many things along my journey because I never stopped doing my part of the job and so nor my learnings. As there is a famous quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward”.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an Actor, Film Producer, Entrepreneur: [ Partner Film Festivals To Go, a New York-based organization, and Yoga Instructor]. I have done a Bollywood movie project as a Supporting Actress and a few American Indie film projects as an Actor and Film Producer. I am a Partner at FFTG (Film Festivals To Go) – a film festival marketing company, which I spearhead to help independent filmmakers gain recognition in the global market. I know for a fact, every film has a market, and our mission at FFTG is to open up these markets for the filmmakers. Health is wealth and therefore, I practice yoga. I am a certified Yoga Instructor & help people to stay physically &. mentally fit through practicing yoga. What sets me apart is my “Don’t stop, keep moving & learn along the way” attitude. I feel great about my own growth when I see my graph. There is no limit on how much you can achieve but I believe one should always look at their own graph and do not compare with others. If I see a growth in myself, that is an achievement, which gives me happiness, satisfaction, and strength to learn more and achieve more. Life, unfortunately, has never been so easy for women, as we so hear. But guess everybody has a defined place in this world. Challenges have never been easy beginning from working into the corporate world to the entertainment world. If I talk about the corporate world, many organizations are improving their policies, but today as well there is salary discrimination between a woman & a man. Having worked in the HR of multinationals, I had direct exposure to its employee’s salary data and I never failed to raise these issues to fix the discrimination. This approach surely did bring about a change in a few employee’s life. Similarly, women artists in entertainment space are usually paid less compared to their male counterparts. Getting a market salary has always been a challenge for a woman. It’s a shame that in 2020, we are still talking about these things.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Firstly, I am thankful to God for giving me everything that I have today. In my journey, I am really thankful to my parents who raised me with so much positivity and love that it became a part of me as well. I am thankful to my husband for giving me so much love and support throughout. A big thank-you to all the mentors from whom I learned who believed in me and gave me my first Bollywood movie project as a supporting actor. I learned a lot from that project which helped me in my future projects. I want to thank all my teachers, mentors, colleagues, friends- who are always there for me & from whom I learn so much in my life. My work partner & a very good friend, who is always a great support to me in every way.
