We had the good fortune of connecting with Helena-Alexis Seymour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Helena-Alexis, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe risk is connected to following an internal Divine energy that guides you in a direction that has no external proof that it will be successful (yet). We do it almost daily as humans in small and/or big amounts. In my career I risk following my passion of acting and modeling knowing on the external that booking jobs is out of my control. When I’m on set I take risks of trying out new emotions and ways of living the life of the character not knowing if the director will like it. We have to trust our internal guidance and go for it to ever grow and become more confident in ourselves and our gut instincts. The more we practice taking risks that internally are guiding us, the more we trust the guidance of the Divine within us. The more that we can exhale and relax that everything in life is being arranged in our favor. Sometimes the biggest risk is to sit back and surrender during our preparation moments and then when the big opportunity shows up, we can act on it with all that we’ve got. In life, I risked my comfortable life and job to move to a different city and country to pursue my dream of acting and modeling. The dream continues to come true as the universe guides me to amazing people and opportunities that elevate my career immensely. Risks can feel uncomfortable as we are stepping into new energy that we haven’t experienced before but the rewards on the other side are always so big and beautiful that our minds cannot even begin to imagine. We have to put in action in order to know if it’s a successful decision or if it redirects us to an outcome even better. Putting in the action is the secret. Either way, we are getting to our destiny.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got into modeling and acting as a way to overcome my shyness as a child. My personality came alive on stage as well as a sense of freedom to fully express myself. This is why I truly believe that we must do things outside our comfort zone and take risks because, who would have thought that being on stage would bring more self-love and confidence to a child with a shy and introverted personality? But it did. When I tell others this story they are genuinely shocked that I was ever shy as I am now the most outgoing and expressive person they know! I am comfortable in my own skin to even go out to events by myself, dance by myself, travel to foreign countries by myself etc. The acting and modeling world provided that door for me to become more of myself. What sets me apart from others is what sets anyone else apart from each other – being our authentic self. When we do that and trust that whatever is meant for us and our evolution will find us, then we have no reason to compare ourselves to the journey someone else is on. There are enough jobs and opportunities to go around. Our destiny is ours and ours alone. However we get to each milestone was already set up by the universe and God. With that trust and surrender to the Divine, I know that I can trust the way my life reveals itself to me and the opportunities that come my way. Everything great, takes great effort and should challenge you. Even if the challenge is patience. We learn through the stretch, through the unknown, through the risk taking. If everything was easy, we would unconsciously look for a challenge. I have learned this along my journey in my career and in my life that what’s meant for me will find me and that if it’s not ‘this’, it’s something better. I have been acting since the age of nine and it was at the age of twenty-one that I booked my first recurring role on an HBO TV Series called “The Line”. So many years of training and auditioning and preparing, but I did it. We had two solid seasons of it. Which lead to bigger roles including a TV Series lead – “The Chronicles of Jessica Wu” where actress Jasmine Guy came on board as a guest star in our third season because she saw how amazing our show was and that I was carrying the weight of it as the lead, with love and respect. She went on to win an Emmy® for her guest-star role and elevated our TV Series to new heights. This was her first ever Emmy® win and it is a TV Series that I am the lead playing title character – Jessica Wu, who uses her autism as a superpower. Such an amazing blessing. I hope that all beings trust and appreciate their journey and the guidance being provided by the universe. When we live in a place of gratitude we can see clearly and receive the blessings and opportunities when they appear in front of us. May we all remember we are worthy of receiving the gifts that are being sent by God.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This has happened multiple times and each time I suggest a new spot because there are so many amazing things to do and see here in LA. Being a vegan, I definitely take them to my top vegan restaurants even if they are meat eaters, because these vegan spots can make you forget you are eating plants (and my friends and family agree). Au Lac downtown, Pura Vita in West Hollywood, Gokoku Ramen Shop in Toluca Lake, and Doomie’s in Hollywood. These spots can turn a carnivore into a vegan instantly! After we eat, we would go for a hike as LA has so many amazing hills/mountains and views. I love hiking at Griffith park, Lake Hollywood, Fryman Canyon, Runyon canyon and also discovering new spots on the all-trails app. I love listening to uplifting EDM music so if a great DJ is in town they are usually spinning at Academy LA, Avalon, or Exchange nightclub and so we would go there for some ecstatic dancing (I don’t drink). I also recently discovered a tea room that has a live jazz player on Thursday nights and fell in love with the vibes. It’s called Tea at Shiloh – and it’s amazing! All their teas are made in house from natural ingredients. We can bring oracle cards to pull, they offer comfy couches and also a water painting station. It’s a whole vibe. Also, a visit to LA must include the best spot (in my opinion) ever – Venice beach boardwalk. The vibe, the beach, the people, the vendors. It’s what makes LA so unique and amazing. I love walking and biking along the path and taking it all in. So grateful to live here and be able to share this beautiful place with those that I love!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this to every single human that has ever crossed my path in this life as they all have had a hand in guiding me along my journey. Sometimes the most subtle comment a stranger says while I am walking my dog inspires me in someway to then make a different decision in my day which then leads to a new opportunity. These small sprinkles of love all connect to the greater picture and I want to thank everyone as God is in all beings. I especially want to thank my parents for seeing my love for performing as a young child and enrolling me in dance classes, beauty pageants and then acting and modeling classes. They always told me to do what I am the most passionate about and trusted me when I wanted to try new things and start new career adventures. My brother has had a huge role in my growth as well as he has always reminded me through his presence and our conversations to come out of my comfort zone. When I was nervous about moving to a new city, he did the apartment hunting with me and was a guide to me finding my place. He is one of my biggest supporters and always sees and reminds me of my highest potential. I love him (and my parents) so, so much! My family is everything to me! I also have the most amazing friends who love, support and want to see me grow as we grow together. I am so grateful that the universe has connected us in this life where we can inspire each other’s evolution to become more of our best selves. Thank you to everyone, from the depths of my heart!
