We had the good fortune of connecting with Ian Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In August of this year, my family and I went to Kentucky to bury my grandmother. Coming back to LA and jumping right back into the 9-5 grind, I had this eye-opening realization: life is way too short to spend it stuck in the middle of office politics. I’ve always known that I wanted to do something creative, but I never really took the leap because of the constant pressure to work, pay bills, and just get by.

But something clicked when I returned, and I decided to take a chance. On a whim, I opened an Etsy shop just to see what would happen. And to my surprise, orders started coming in! That feeling of hearing the “cha-ching” notification every time I made a sale was incredible. It was a sign that maybe, just maybe, I could make a real go of this. The whole experience made me realize that taking a chance on my passion was worth it, and here I am, doing what I love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professionally, I’m still growing, developing, and learning. Honestly, nothing in life is easy, and having my own business is definitely no exception! There’s been a lot of trial and error—from creating new products and designing packaging to finding pop-up events, making connections, and overcoming failures. Each step has been a steep learning curve, but it’s all part of the process.

As I move into 2025, one of the biggest challenges I’ve set for myself is becoming more organized. Organization has never been my strong suit, so I’m really focusing on getting my design files, inventory, and thoughts in order. I’m learning how to slow down and be more deliberate in my approach, which has been a big shift for me. Right now, I’m also taking a little break from my 3D printers to design and create custom drawer organizers for my desk drawers—kind of a way to get organized on the personal side too!

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me and my brand, it’s this: you can do it. If you have a dream, a thought, or an idea—just go for it. The world moves so fast these days, and there’s a niche and a market for everyone. Don’t be afraid to take the leap, even if it seems intimidating. The challenges are real, but the rewards are worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sunday Gravy, Inglewood
After a long flight, we’d kick things off with a cozy and mouth-watering dinner at Sunday Gravy in Inglewood. This spot is known for its incredible handmade pasta and a rustic, homey atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re dining at a friend’s house. The playlist here is always on point, setting a relaxed, welcoming mood. My absolute favorite dish is their Caesar salad—trust me, it’s a game-changer. Then I’d pair it with something hearty, like the short rib ragu pasta. You won’t leave hungry or disappointed!

Hi-Lo Liquor Market, Culver City
Next up, we’d head over to Hi-Lo Liquor Market in Culver City. This place is more than just a liquor store; it’s a craft spirits paradise. They have a tasting room, and the best part is that they offer free tastings! It’s a fun way to explore some of LA’s finest local brews and spirits, and they’ve got a ton of knowledge to share about the craft cocktail scene. A great stop if you’re into trying unique drinks and supporting local makers.

Ko-Ryu Ramen, Torrance
For lunch or dinner, Ko-Ryu Ramen in Torrance is a must. It’s this hidden gem tucked away in an old shopping center, and I can’t recommend it enough. If you like ramen (and even if you don’t), you’ve got to try the #27 Fried Chicken Curry Ramen. The rich, spicy miso-based broth with crispy fried chicken is the perfect combination of flavors. This place is a must.

Long Beach Creamery, Long Beach
After a day of thrifting or strolling along the beach, we’re definitely stopping at Long Beach Creamery for some of the best ice cream in LA. Their rotating menu of bold and unique flavors always keeps things interesting. Every time I go, I’m dreaming of my next scoop. It’s the perfect sweet treat to cap off the day.

Hula Hula Room, Torrance
To end the day on a high note, we’d head over to Hula Hula Room in Torrance. This place has a vintage tiki vibe, super intimate and cozy, with a fun and laid-back atmosphere. The drinks are strong and well-crafted, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring the city. It’s a place that’s always buzzing with energy, but still feels like an escape from the usual LA hustle.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I absolutely have to dedicate this shoutout to my family, especially my wife Hazel and our 2-year-old daughter Nova. Hazel has been my rock throughout this journey—when I left my stable but chaotic job, she supported me 100%. She’s always encouraged me to be creative and pursue my passions, which has meant the world to me.

Nova is also a huge inspiration behind this leap of faith. The world is changing so fast, and I want her to grow up in an environment where she knows she doesn’t have to be stuck in the traditional rat race. I want her to feel empowered, knowing she has the support and love of her family to chase after whatever dreams she has.

And of course, I have to give a big shoutout to my mom. She’s been there for me through thick and thin for all 35 years of my life. If you ever visit my booth at a pop-up event, you’ll most likely see her behind the table helping out! She’s always been there to lend a hand and cheer me on.
