We had the good fortune of connecting with Imani Elexus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Imani, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My businesses started as ideas of things I was already passionate about. With a love for graphic design and a clever way with words I figured I could get people intrigued and convince them of the value of my products and services. Although I previously didn’t have time to fully invest myself into my businesses the way I wanted, I now have the time, space, and enthusiasm to relaunch in a wiser way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m extremely proud of all the things I’ve created no matter if the world may see the outcome as “unsuccessful” because they’re all authentically me. To think of an idea and watch it come to life is a success in itself and any day now one of my ideas is going to take me to the heights I always knew I’d reach.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When someone I love comes to visit I always try to create the best experiences. We’d wake up to drinks and cook breakfast or go to brunch. We’d do sightseeing type of activities, go to museums, maybe even drive further out to get an amazing view of nature. I’d like to eat at some of the finest restaurants in town as well as some of the best mom and pop shops there is. I’m always down for a thrill so an amusement ride, an escape room, or something of the sort would be on the bucket list. We may even have to spend at least one night out at the best bar, club, or lounge. I wouldn’t let either one of us part without a souvenir we buy or make at something like a pottery place, a place we can customize different things, or something we create in home from something like a paint and sip evening. Just know time will be had.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to first and foremost thank my family and friends for always supporting me the best that they can and for keeping it real. I’d also like to thank the schools I attended (CSULA & AVC) for shifting my mindset and teaching me valuable things I’ve carried with me. Lastly, I’d like to thank all my colleagues and the people I’ve worked with whether that be at school, work, business, or hobbies such as art and music. Everyone I’ve encountered throughout life no matter the experience has taught me something or made me look at things a little differently, shaping me into who I’m blessed to be today.
