We had the good fortune of connecting with India Boeckh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi India, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Tampa Florida, coming from an artistic family I was drawn to the arts at a very early age. My childhood was filled with art camps and museum visits, and like many in this industry I was enthralled by animated movies and tv shows. I knew I wanted to be an artist and I would consume any media I could get my hands on, but compelling art and story was what inspired me the most, I decided that animation was exactly what I wanted to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I just like to make things, I love shapes and colors and the limitless possibilities of art. I like the freedom to create worlds, people and adventures, but also help other tell their own stories. What excites me the most is that you’re never done learning, growing or improving, I constantly am inspired and driven by my peers to improve, community and collaboration are so important in this sphere. I like using art to connect with others and create something together, to me that’s what is so important about art. I’ve been extremely lucky to have had great internships and mentorships that made my career possible, I learned so much from those experiences. I’ve definitely had setback, rejections and self doubt throughout my career, but I just keep working and applying to jobs, and eventually I was able to get my big break. I. learned that sometimes things don’t work out how you planned them or how you wanted them to go, but if it’s something you truly want there’s no choice in quitting. It took me longer than some to get where I am today but to me it was all worth it, I have a lot of fond memories of the steps it took to be the artist I am, and I’m looking forward to the continued steps I have to take to be the artist I want to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ll be honest and say I haven’t explored as much as I’ve wanted to. It’s been a bit difficult with the pandemic, but with that in mind, I love the nature in the area. Griffith Park is massive and there are so many trails, and I love the trails in Malibu too if you want some sea air. The museum of Natural History is fun, but I’m also a sucker for dinosaurs, and they have an annual bug show thats really cool. I love the libraries across the city, they’re so important and a wonderful spot to just read and relax, plus some have a Maker’s Space where you can utilize various amenities like sewing and embroidery machines, 3D printers and what not. There are so many good food spots here, I really enjoy hot pot at Little Sheep.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success has been all thanks to so many people in my life; my family and friends, mentors from past projects, my colleagues, my teachers. My parents have been my greatest supporters from the beginning, both my parents are artist so I was always supported when pursuing the arts as well, they made sure I was able to explore and experiment with many creative outlets. Because of their support and encouragement I was able to feel confident and work towards the career I wanted, I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
