We had the good fortune of connecting with louie Chapman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi louie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I don’t think you can simply choose to be creative or artistic, its just what you do and who you are. All my money and time all day is spent on art, watching it, making it and having fun with it. I can’t help but do it which means that the only choice of career for me would be an artistic/creative one. It is who I am. Like I am the opposite of a dentist, they are typically, clear cut and think inside the box. Like the last thing you want to hear from your dentist is ” ok, i’m going to creative here”.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an actor I think we all strive for truth and complete honesty in our work. I recently shot a movie called ” The Seven Neighbors” that captured some really personally raw moments and I am very intrigued to see how those moments look on the big screen. I Couldn’t have got to that emotional state if it wasn’t for the wonderful Tim Griffin ( Bourne supremacy, American Sniper) who was interrogating me in the scenes, playing opposite someone of that caliber takes it from acting to truthfully being in other-words having Tim Griffin interrogate you is terrifying.
Getting to where I am professionally has been hard relentless work, its not a normal 9-5 job its 24/7. When starting out in this industry you need to find a job thats flexible with you dropping and picking up shifts at the drop of a pin thats also high pay because LA is so damn expensive, while paying for updated headshots and a ton of website subscriptions, its a lot to begin with . Once you find your way of earning that money and flexibility it then becomes very easy. luckily for me I run my own company ‘1805 Tapes’, which is a self taping company where I coach, read opposite and tape actors for their auditions, helping them put their best foot forward. I recently hit over 300 auditioning clients which is a lot but i have learnt so much about acting from doing this company. I have learnt how the camera does not like liars, it can only be truth.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Have to go watch a double feature at Quentin Tarantinos movie theatre called ‘ The New Beverly’. SO COOL.
The Grove for a day of art .
The ‘Black Rabbit Rose’ in Hollywood has an incredible open mic set up, who ever is performing there will be good ‘Reeve Carney is phenomenal.
Eat Chicken fried chicken at the ‘Fat Dog’ in NoHo Arts district – BOMB.
Neptunes Net for a dinner after the beach in Malibu.
Any and all open mics for comedy or singer song writers , LA is the best place in the world for it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The whole ‘Life As A Mermaid’ team. I am so thankful for that project and I still work with people from that show often. Especially Alex, Chad and Marcella. Marcella has come in clutch for many moments in my life when I needed work or needed to find someone for casting. Alex helped me start up my company and dig deeper into who I am as a person and Chad has helped me on passion projects. I love all three of them so much and would do anything for them. I wouldn’t be who i am without them and ‘Life As A Mermaid’ is such a good memory, I loved being apart of that show.
