Meet Iqbal Rahmatullah | Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Iqbal Rahmatullah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iqbal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am a person who does not like to be controlled. So the only way I could think of to earn money at that time was to become a freelancer. And at the beginning of the year it was very difficult because I had to find connections, buyers and clients. With only my drawing skills, I started to learn things about business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an illustrator, usually I make illustrations to be printed on t-shirts, or as posters. The illustrations I make tend to focus on the details of the image, from the inking to the color. When drawing I like to make the inking the most, it’s like relaxation for me. And I also like it when I meet clients who understand the process behind the results of the images they ask for. To get to my current position is not easy. In addition to having to continue to train my drawing skills, I also have to learn about business, creating content, managing finances and much more. The lesson I can take is that to achieve the success we want, we must want to continue learning. I want the world to know that I can help them visualize their ideas or stories with my illustrations.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like coffee shops. There I can chat with people I care about and listen to their stories.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ian permana (Iannocent) really helped me develop my drawing style with his tutorials.
