We had the good fortune of connecting with Iris Hosea & Patty Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Iris Hosea & Patty Flores, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Festively, an online resource to find trendy elements and custom gifts for milestone celebrations came about in 2018 when Patty had to plan three big celebrations – a best friend’s bachelorette party, her son’s high school graduation, and her own 40th birthday party. Planning was pretty frustrating, she had to call all over the place to find the right cake, the perfect decor, a great bartender, gifts and everything else. She thought there must be a better way.
Patty teamed up with Festively’s co-founder Iris and they’ve been on this journey together since 2019. “We’ve each been in the event industry for more than 15 years, are busy moms, and know we are solving a big problem shared by moms all over – how to find, book and buy the perfect party elements to help them host extra memorable experiences to celebrate life’s special moments” said Patty.
Many aspects of the event industry are still manual, relying on phone calls & Instagram DMs. Festively will help busy moms and at the same time bridge a technology gap for many minority-owned small businesses.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We launched Festively October 2020 in the middle of the pandemic with our families at home, working full-time corporate jobs and our kids participating in virtual learning. It’s challenging at times to find the balance for it all. But, we are driven by our passion to help moms and other small businesses succeed. We’re each others accountability partner and try to work with a weekly schedule, listen to books and podcasts to help us stay focused. When it comes to our company brand, we started off very broad with our ideas for Festively and learned along the way we needed to niche down, identify our ideal clients and be as specific as possible. Today we are excited to help trendy moms host milestone celebrations by connecting them with women and minority owned creative businesses on our website, Festively.com.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If we have a friend visiting LA, post pandemic, we’d of course take them to some of the tourist hot spots then to a few of our own authentic locations. Here is our itinerary for a friend visiting starting on a Thursday. Thursday – A trip to Temecula for wine tasting and dinner.
Friday – Dinner and drinks DTLA on the rooftop of Perch
Saturday – A trip to the beach either Santa Monica Pier or Point Dume in Malibu
Sunday – Sunday brunch entertainment at Spaghettini, Seal Beach
Monday – A hike to the Hollywood sign
