We had the good fortune of connecting with Irving Victoria and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Irving, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

Well, it has definitely change over time. I used to work crazy hours on every project I could get my hands on and I got used to it. It got to be normal for me and I even enjoyed it. I learned a lot, but it got to a point where it was affecting my work flow. It started to get harder and harder to concentrate and get stuff done. I noticed I was burned and I knew something needed to change, and that’s when I started doing non music related things. Now I do all kinds of sports, photography, traveling, things that help me cleared my head. After I started doing, I realized that every time I went back to music, ideas will flow faster. That is the key!
Now a days, I try to balance both parts of my life, giving my time and energy equally to both.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I feel like my journey just started in the Music Industry, I’m still far from what I want to achieved. It has not been easy but I’ve learned that hard work and practice pay off.
It is still exciting for me to make music every day. I enjoy playing with my instruments and learn to play new ones. I also like to keeping up with plug ins, sample libraries, software, technology and the music industry in general.
Something that never gets old and it’s still exciting is hearing my music randomly while browsing on the tv.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Definitely Santa Monica and the Venice area for a walk, a bike ride or just skate around is a most. While in the Area, we can check out the Venice Canals and Abbot Kinney Boulevard to grab some ice cream. I also think Malibu has some of the most beautiful hikes in the city. Going uphill while looking at the ocean is always a treat.
I love the outdoors and LA has beautiful sites like Griffith park and Runyon cannon in Hollywood. If you are into food, Melrose Avenue has some very cool, delicious restaurants. Toast Bakery is one of my favorites for lunch, Thai Town for dinner.
To me, the most exciting thing to do in LA is concerts. Listening to the LA Philharmonic playing at the Disney Concert hall or the Hollywood Bowl is a wonderful experience. You can listen to your favorite movies scores live and played by some of the best musicians in the world which is amazing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

First of all, my parents for always supporting this crazy journey that I chose and putting up with all the noise I made throughout the years.

Also, to all my mentors from Musicians Institute and UCLA, I would not be here without their mentorship. Big shoutout to Matthias Weber who is an incredible composer and human being. He took a chance on me and hired me as his assistant back when I was a student at UCLA and I learned so much from him.
