We had the good fortune of connecting with IZABELA Salimpour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi IZABELA, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art has always been my greatest outlet and passion. I find my life dull without it. It has supported me through every life fluctuation and has acted as my true voice. To be honest, pursuing an artistic career has been the perfect mixture of happiness, mystery, and challenge. The combination has kept me engaged and has motivated me to expand my mind, my craft, and develop trust in myself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are so many things I am excited for in my creative world. I am currently making some of my most honest art with one of my best friends/producers. He is someone I met when I first moved to L.A and we instantly clicked. The music we are creating is a mixture of R&B, pop, soul, and sounds from my heritage. We just released our first single “Off My Mind” On July 8th! This song was one of the first creations we collaborated on and holds my heart. When writing this song, I drew inspiration from the “honeymoon stage” of love. This stage is one of my favorites, so I wanted to delve into the thoughts and feelings that I experience during that period of time.
Along with that, I have started writing music for other artists which I am extremely grateful for. Songwriting has been a passion of mine since I was a child so to make it a part of my career has been a blessing. I also act and have been cast in some films and commercials.
Another thing I am heavily involved in is Bellydancing. Whether Im performing, teaching, writing about it, or incorporating it in my other artistic pursuits, it is always involved in my life. Obviously, my interests span across a lot of the artistic realms haha, but hey.. why not?
In my opinion, art requires a lot of change, trials and tribulations, and tests of faith. All of these things, for me, are definitely difficult to face and they have required a lot of focus. Although it has been difficult, I appreciate and give thanks to the experiences that I have had and the experiences I will have in the future! I have learned to trust myself, always be a student, and give thanks to every encounter and journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am new to L.A so this itinerary may be basic but here we go! There are many amazing places I would take a visitor such as melrose trading post for shopping, EP/LP for drinks, Bacari for food, Laveta for coffee, Wisdom tree for a hike, The Baked Potato for jazz music, Little Tokyo for fun shops and yummy food, Hollywood farmers market for food, Delilah’s for a classy night out, and etc.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I cannot even begin to show gratitude for all the love and support I have received along my artistic journey. I am thankful for the family that has supported me, the producers and songwriters I have worked with, and everyone who has believed in my vision and continues to do so. I cannot imagine my life without them.
