We had the good fortune of connecting with Izzy La Reina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Izzy, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by people that went through it all and instead of letting all the hardships of life break them, they used that to inspire others. That’s how I look at myself. I went through a lot of darkness, challenges , heartbreaks and brokenness pursuing my dream, I left my country and the comfort of home to discover a whole new world while pursuing a distant dream. A lot of hurtful things happened to me while I was doing that but I never looked at it as something bad, I always thought these were opportunities for me to become a stronger woman and one day inspire others to be strong and believe in themselves.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart is versatility. My music is a mix of worlds, I’m Brazilian, but I live in the United States. I understand pop in America. At the same time, I add the Latin vibes. Some of my songs are in English. Some in Spanish and Brazil gives me that third culture, because there’s no place and energy like it. So I’m bringing those 3 cultures together in my sound. Getting here was a long and difficult journey, I had multiple challenges like being an immigrant, being a woman in a male dominated industry also figuring out how to find the resources to put this whole career together and surviving in LA without any support at the same time but with a lot of work and determination I was able to beat each one of these challenges. I’ve learned that nothing that is super valuable comes easy and that you need to be consistent, determined and work if your butt off if you want to win. I wanna be known as someone who never gave up, who never settled, someone who went after what she wanted without fear.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely would take them to eat at “Catch” one of my favorite spots in West Hollywood, also at “Geoffrey’s” or “Nobu” in Malibu and then go for a ride on the PCH. I’d also take them on a hike on Runyon Canyon or Griffith park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d say my team Jeff Claro and my incredible partner Tmg fresh, without them I couldn’t be doing any of this and last but not least my Brazilian fan base, they show me so much love. It’s amazing !
