We had the good fortune of connecting with J Wealth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As an artist my number one obligation is to be authentic. I think with the power and influence of Social media it is easy to decipher when an individual is not being true to their audience and is portraying some form of an act for notoriety and attention. Coming from a family where everyone would call me out if I was putting on some form of an act being fake is not an option. As a music producer I continue to study all of my muses to learn not only what they do well but also the things that I don’t agree with to make sure that I don’t make the same mistakes they may have made at some point in their careers. I have found some form of success with the music that I have produced by making music that I genuinely like and not what I believe that people will like. As artists we have a responsibility to the supporters to make sure we are contributing to the music industry putting out our best work at all times.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a music producer my main focus is to make timeless quality music that people can vibe to and remember the first moment that they listened to a specific song or trigger some form of an emotion every time they listen to one of my tracks. I am also a radio show host on Dash Radio in Hollywood, California for four years now which has opened the doors for me to interview celebrities and pick their brains on their creative process and be fortunate enough to use that as a form of motivation as well. I feel what sets me apart from other’s is that I am content with who I am as a Man. I am not influenced by anything and don’t have the interest to do things to gain approval from people. This plays a major part in remaining authentic because everything I do it based on what I like not what I think other people may like. I am most proud of the music that I have coming out because I am producing the type of music that I like and its not just Hip-Hop it is also good R&B music as well. I was able to get where I am today with hard work and staying out of BS but I am also currently where I am at right now due to having the right team. My team makes everything not only less challenging to accomplish but also provides me motivation knowing any form of success WE all win as a team. My biggest challenge was during the pandemic not being able to do the things that have become part of my life like being on radio and also being a DJ on air. During this time I evaluated myself on what I wanted to do differently once everything was back to normal and I have been fortunate to do that. One lesson that I have learned along the way is “Treat people like you want to be treated” It is important that we treat everyone no matter what point they are at in life with respect because we never know what the future holds and that person can very well be someone you work with in the future and you don’t want to bring bad energy towards people. I would like the world to be clear in knowing I am 100% what you see and not putting on some act to look cool and overtime they will continue to see that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be honest the first thing I would do is try to orchestrate some form of gathering where a lot of family could also be involved and they get some form of a good home cooked meal followed with laughter with family etc. In my opinion that is the most important thing some of us are fortunate to have and that is family we have have those gatherings with and have moments that will remain fresh in our heads over time. Another go to would be to go to a Lakers game with good seats you cannot beat seeing the Lakeshow in person. I am really simple not into clubs and all that and if I am ever seen in a club it would be being paid to do a DJ set.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a kid my mother had me at the age of sixteen with little to no support aside of her siblings so in a sense you can say the path to failure was much higher than the path to succeed. What I was blessed to see was someone working hard daily to defy the odds that were stacked against her and my mom raised the bar single handedly in my family alone but not letting being a young mother take her off the path of her dreams. I watched my mom put herself through all levels of school and graduate from San Diego State University to become a Teacher and the first college graduate in my family. It was a lot of times that my mom would face challenges with test and exams in college but she zoned in and just kept going harder and harder to make her dream a reality. So when I face any challenges I keep that all fresh in my head because it is a constant reminder that I have no excuses to make if she was able to overcome such a big challenge.
