We had the good fortune of connecting with Raisu Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raisu, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I want the chance to tell my story through my art and creative career. I grew up in a very unconventional way and everything about me is the exact opposite of the stereotypes so many people believe to be true about African American men.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well right now we are in the middle of a long SAG and WGA strike and as a actor and writer sometimes it feels like just about everything I do is on hold. However I feel my resilience is what sets me apart from others. I’m no stranger to uncertainty and unexpected change so I choose to focus on what I can control. It wasn’t easy getting to that point but in life there is ALWAYS something to be upset about so I try to focus more on what I can do in the moment now that the milk is spilled.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Alright I love to experience things that are unexpected and unique so with that said I’d say in a week my friend would have to go to The Museum of Jurassic Technology, The Magic Castle, LACMA, The Baked Potato (Great Music Spot), La Mirada Theatre, Walt Disney Music Hall, Catalina Island and the Crystal Cove Peak Hike which is beautiful and leads to the beach!
Now for food I’d say Coco Ichi (for amazing Japanese Curry), Angels Tijuana Tacos, Howlin Rays, BAKE Japanese Cheese Tarts, Zankou Chicken ( Mediterranean Food), and Sugar Fish Sushi
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I wouldn’t be here without my faith in God which has kept me going when things looked and seemed impossible. My wife Ana Barreiro does so much in the music scene and is always extremely supportive of everything I do. Even when things don’t go according to plan, seeing her working hard always motivates me to do the same. Plus this may sound silly but I always want to work hard to look good for my lady.
