We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Dinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’m lucky enough to have always known this is what I want to do. Actually, I was three when I first started telling my parents that I was going to be a singer! A couple years later they got me my first little acoustic guitar.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I wrote my first real song when I was twelve and found that it came rather naturally. My response to stress is to bottle the emotions to be strong for the people around me, or even to avoid being a burden. I’ve found that music as a creative outlet allows me to dig up those demons and release them. In my darkest moments of anxiety or depression, it really does seem to be the only thing that truly helps. I really can’t understand how people deal if they don’t have an outlet like that. I’ve worked hard ever since I was a little kid to be a great songwriter, performer, and producer. Now that I feel the limitations on making great music are gone, I want to use the songs for good. The most fulfilling thing to me is to hear that my song helped someone through their own darkness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
By far, my favorite type of getaway is desert camping. Reconnecting with nature and becoming aware of your body, your mortality and fragility, is humbling. It makes all the stupid stresses of life, work, and society just evaporate away. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting out into other biomes like forrests and mountains, but there’s something so intensely cleansing and nostalgic about the desert for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When you’re a kid and you say you want to be a musician when you grow up, people say “Awe, that’s cute!” You get a little older and they start saying “You’re good, but you really need a backup plan.” Eventually, they’re telling you that you’re crazy and your goals are next to impossible. My mom, however, has always had so much confidence in me and my craft. Without her encouragement and support, I don’t know where I’d be.
