We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Oster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jack, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Product Pluto came from a desire to throw high quality electronic music events with friends, and for friends. As a DJ and regular in the LA house and techno scene, I knew early on I wanted to be a part of the industry. In college, starting my own events company with my close friends that shared the same passion seemed like the best way to achieve that goal. We started out with desert events out in Joshua Tree, and the business quickly grew into the niche we seek to lead in Southern California and beyond.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I knew from the beginning of college that I wanted to work in the electronic music industry, but I wasn’t quite sure where to start. Most of my passion was derived from DJing and throwing and attending events, but I had no real knowledge of the industry or its inner-workings. At the time, there wasn’t a lot of avenues to point me in the right direction. After starting my company in the latter half of college, I knew upon graduation that I had to find a “real” job to support myself. I did a lot of research and ended up deciding to apply to talent agencies specifically for music.

I landed a job at a large music agency, and within a very short period of time I was forced to learn so much about the music industry. I made some incredible friends, and some even better mentors that I owe so much to. My time there will always be what I look back on as my launchpad into the industry.

During and after leaving the agency, I focused a lot on my company and our team had an incredible 2023 year full of events that we have rolled into 2024 with an incredible start. Recently, I made the move to artist management, and now work for a management company here in LA. Like the agency business, the job is a crash course on the industry and an absolute pleasure of a career for people who truly love music and the artists they work for.

2024 has already been great on both sides of my career, and I’m excited to chase the goals we’ve set for ourselves at Product Pluto. Look out for our monthly residency at Harriet’s rooftop, along with warehouses, club shows, desert events, and much, much more.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This has happened quite a lot, especially living in a city like LA where friends come to visit often. One of my favorite places to see a show is Sound Nightclub, a place I consider to be one of the finest clubs in the US and rarely disappoints. We have a lot of friends over at Framework, and they’re always on top when it comes to electronic music in LA.

Food wise, Sushi Tama is never a bad choice for some of the city’s best Sushi, Laconda Portofino or Uovo for Italian, and Leo’s taco truck for the best Al Pastor in the world. Top tier.

Outside of that, hikes and beaches in the Palisades and Malibu are easy to get to and a lot of fun, especially for people visiting. Nothing like a good beach day with friends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The company would be nowhere without the incredible team involved in operating Product Pluto. Max Nall, co-founder of the company, was instrumental in getting the idea off the ground with me from the beginning, and continues to be an imperative part of the team day in and day out.

Gianluca Torgerson, our CFO has also been incredible since the company’s inception. As an accountant for many years, he’s always made sure things are in order financially, something I do not consider a strong suit (lol).

Alex Manrique, our creative director handles all things design, production, and event curation. Any quick look at our social media or high quality production at our events can be traced back to his creativity.

Alex works closely with our Head of Marketing, Jason Jung. Jason has a strong background in graphic design and marketing, and has done work for some of the top companies and record labels in the industry. The collaboration between Alex and Jason regarding design and curation for the company is what drives the company identity forward as we grow.

One thing I need to make clear however, is that none of the team members have ever been restricted to their role. More often than not, every piece of the business from production to talent buying, design and finances are all a collaborative effort between the 5 of us. That is something we know has lead to all of our success thus far.
