Meet Jacob Taylor | Choreographer & Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacob, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been drawn to creativity and the arts. Since I was little I enjoyed creating movies in my head that I would then act out in real life. I have a very active imagination and when I am able to execute on these ideas it is a very fulfilling and enriching experience.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love the art of choreography and I am endlessly fascinated by it. I believe that we all have a unique creative fingerprint and it is very fulfilling to express our individual creativity to the world. I have been able to create my own distinctive style through extensive experimentation and exploration of dance. I have had many influences and inspirations and have been able to distill and create my own work from those influences. My style is known for its innovative use of quick arm and foot movement as well as a quirky and creative use of musicality. I am most proud of several performances that I produced a long with my fellow collaborators and artists, Sue Daniels, Zoe Taylor, Steve Taylor, Victoria Manning, and Elisa Toro Franky. We created several full length productions with wonderful music and production design. It has taken a great deal of hard work, perseverance and support from friends and family to achieve what I have thus far in my career. There were many challenging moments a long the way, but I believe that they have all added to the richness of my story and have helped me become a more interesting and creative person. I have learned to never give up and keep moving forward because you never know what exciting opportunities are just around the corner:) I would like the world to know that each of us has a distinct creative voice and I think that it is essential to let that energy out through your form of art wether it be dancing, writing, singing or any other creative discipline.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to the New Beverly Cinema (a very cool theater in Hollywood owned by Quinten Tarantino)
I would also take them to Griffith Observatory which displays some of the best views of the city.
