We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Ganim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jada, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m a film director from silicon valley, so naturally, I found a way to create a business that has to do with the film industry. A problem I had found that was so prominent in wide demographic of peoples’ lives, was the challenge of finding what to watch on TV.

From a young age, we’re presented with these large black screens sat nice and high on their throne placed perfectly parallel to a couch, creating a pair arguably better than peanut butter and jelly. But what use is all of that if you’re stuck in a doom scroll on *insert streaming service platform* for an hour until you decide to either sleep or watch the same movie or show you’ve seen twenty times already? (<i>Superbad</i>)

Andrew Krikorian, co-founder of Picturelock, and I created this app in order to help people find what to watch and join a community of film and television lovers alike.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I landed in Los Angeles with the same intent of most people that move here- to make films, tell stories, and contribute to the film industry in any way that I can. Since I was a child, I knew that filmmaking was the career path I wanted to explore, so I did everything I could to learn and practice the craft. Dropping into the industry at twenty something years old is not easy, but figuring out how to navigate the chaos isn’t impossible. It’s exciting to live in a city filled with other creatives looking to create and learn. I’m a creative through and through, and I’ll never not be. That’s what I love so much about working on Picturelock, it’s different and exciting and a way to make a difference in the film industry. We’ve built this app to enhance people’s viewing experiences and encourage audiences to find new movies and shows to watch, even ones that may be a bit out of their comfort zone. This is how we’ll promote independent film and get people excited to write about and analyze everything that they watch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my gosh, what a fun question! I’m gonna list out a bunch of my favorite spots:

For coffee/matcha:
– Cha Cha Matcha
– Three Sisters Coffee
– Alfred Coffee

For lunch:
– Gracias Madre
– Mamie’s
– Nong La Cafe

For dinner:
– Mother Wolf in Hollywood
– Katana in weho
– Cobi’s in Santa Monica
– Il Capriccio in Los Feliz, then walk over to The Dresden for jazz and drinks after.

For night out / drinks:
– Employees Only
– EP LP
– The Roger Room
– No Vacancy
– Breakroom 86

And a special shoutout to Mel’s on sunset because it’s one of my favorite places on earth.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The creation of Picturelock could not have happened without the hard work and genius mind of Andrew Krikorian, the developer behind the app, so I’d love for this to be dedicated to his effort in making this happen as well.
