We had the good fortune of connecting with Jade Wu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jade, what do you want people to remember about you?
I would like to be remembered as a creative person who works ethically, brings positive impact, and ignites thought-provoking dialogues. I wish my legacy to reflect the creation of original and interesting art grounded in a thoughtful and deliberate process, transcending mere technical capability or pleasing aesthetics.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work interdisciplinarily at the intersection of art, technology, and the built environment. I’m interested in creating experiences, provoking thinking, and driving positive social impact. In recent years, I have mostly worked on self-expressing wearables and large-scale installations, striving to give voices to the less-heard groups.

I come from a background in engineering and infrastructure planning. Switching paths is certainly challenging, but the constant learning in a new field is also exhilarating, and that keeps me going. Along the way, I realized that my background could be highly applicable to art production and technical direction.

My latest exploration of art mediums is through glass-blowing lessons. I hope it’ll bring a new dimension to my creative process.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite exhibits is the Ware Collection of Blaschka Glass Models of Plants at the Harvard Museum of Natural History. For a delightful café experience, I love visiting Life Alive, and Tatte is a beloved Boston staple. For a quick and delicious lobster sandwich or a fresh lobster meal with a friend, Alive & Kicking Lobsters is a hidden gem conveniently located near Harvard and MIT. And if you have time for a day trip, Walden Pond, immortalized by Henry David Thoreau, is less than an hour’s drive away and well worth the visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out to Danny Clarke, undisciplinary artist and my partner, for supporting me and inspiring me always. I’d also like to shout out to all the amazing mentors and friends I met along the way.
