We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Lawler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jake, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think of life as a series of risks…and those that calculate those risks the most become the most successful. In my honest evaluation, life has never been too short. Instead, I have always viewed life as much too long to not do the things that you are passionate about. The regret of not doing something you love has always been more terrifying than the risks associated with that pursuit and I have learned to fall in love with the leap.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Passion is what drives me. My brother and I frequently collaborate on our work together, our goal being to make sure that a myriad of different people and groups can be represented and feel seen on screen. It’s a difficult hill to surmount, but the pursuit is what matters. That is where the core elements of creativity come to life and, whatever the story may be, the approach to make sure it is told in the best and most interesting way possible is the exciting part. It doesn’t matter how many see it. It only matters who sees it and how they respond to it. If your art can leave a lasting impression on someone else, then why not pursue it?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
AMI Sushi in Westwood is probably my favorite food spot in the city. Great people, too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, first and foremost.
Conor Lawler, Nicole Jolly, DJ Ford, Griffin Zetterberg
