We had the good fortune of connecting with JAKEYA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JAKEYA, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Philadelphia PA. The beautiful city where so many of the greats in the music and entertainment industry are from. Growing up in the church, music was always around me. I’m birthed from a musical family. My father and his siblings were the band at church. My dad would play the bass guitar and sing, my uncle Isaac would play lead guitar and sing, my uncle Charles played the keys and sung, my aunt Betty was the lead vocalist, and her son, my cousin Cory, would play the drums. When they would play the music and sing songs of praise, the entire church would be on their feet, clapping, moving and singing along. There was such an overwhelming presence of love, joy and freedom that filled the sanctuary. It was magical. The art of music was something I could never escape. Its in my blood. Aside from playing the bass, my father also played the drums, keys and brass. He instilled a lot of knowledge and music history in me. He even thought me how to play the drums. And with the support of my mother, they both pushed me to become a successful musician, vocalist and entertainer. My father also has his own construction company. He learned the importance of entrepreneurship from his father. My granddad owned his own grocery and fish market. Working hard is in our DNA, and having strong examples of thriving entrepreneurs, such as my dad and granddad, only ignited the motivation I needed to want a business of my own. So I was able to create Jakeya Limitless Music LLC, a company that provides services in the education, mentoring and performance aspects of the music world. I’ve been able to perform all over the world, and have been an active vocal coach and mentor for over 12 years. Music and education drives me, in a way that pushes me beyond boundaries to continue to impact people’s lives, and empower them to know that they’re limitless. I strive to remain limitless in all that I do.

I’m an entertainer, songwriter, and vocal coach, and I’ve been actively singing and performing for over 25 yrs. Graduating from the famous Creative and Performing Arts High School of Philadelphia (better known as CAPA), where the likes of Bilal, Jazmine Sullivan, Boys to Men and many other household artists attended, pushed me to want to be one of the greats. I was classically trained, and studied diverse vocal technique, to be able to sing opera, jazz, contemporary, rock, soul and gospel music. My goal was to develop versatile sounds, to be able to perform various genres of music Today, as an Alternative Soul Indie artist, song writer, vocal mentor and coach, I enjoy pushing boundaries, while embracing the freedom of art; of music and performance. I’ve been blessed to grace audiences from around the world including, all over the United States, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Paris, and different parts of the Caribbean. Through this journey, I hope that my music and sound will touch hearts, and resonate with those that are listening. I want my music to be a source of motivation and drive for individuals to do the unreasonable! I want my music to uplift spirits, restore hearts, bring joy to the those that are down, relieve stress from the cares of this world, and enable individuals to enforce positive energy into the universe. I believe that my music will erupt a celebration of life! I hope to empower individuals to know and understand that they are limitless and able to do, be, and achieve anything they want in life. Regardless of what friends, family, society and what the world might say, I want to encourage individuals to be just the way they are. Perfect, Whole and Complete!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best spots to go to in Philly…aww man, that’s hard because there are so many to choose from. I would definitely take a friend from out of town to visit this Absinthe bar and restaurant called TIME. There’s a jam session there almost every night with the most talented musicians. And the food is amazing. I would also take them to The Philadelphia Art Museum. One of Philly’s hot spots is the famous South St. Its like our Bourbon st lol. There is always something fun and cultural going on in Philly. You’ll love every minute
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wanna give special thanks to God. God made it all possible. I have to thank my parents, Jacob and Denise Sanders for their undying love and support. I wanna big up my lil sister, my twin Christiana. She’s the bestest sister ever. Thank you to Mrs. Dorina Morrow, my high school music teacher. She’s the reason I became a vocal coach and mentor. Thank you to my friends and colleagues who makes the greatest community a person could ever have. To my label EMC (EKLEKTIK MAGICK CITY) and Mario Crew for producing my first baby, my project that was released in 2018 called Disco Ball. Mario is the man! And lastly I have to thank all of my students. I constantly grow and learn because of you all. I’m not a great teacher, without great students. Because of them, I can keep striving for greatness. Thank you Shout-out for featuring me in your wonderful article. And thank you to the amazing STARFIRE for dropping my name to be interviewed. She’s an absolute angel. Limitless love to you all!
