We had the good fortune of connecting with Ja’maal Hassan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ja’maal Hassan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
First, I want to create something that is sustainable in the market. I conducted extensive market research and identify a gap or an opportunity where I believed my business could thrive.

Secondly, I want to pursue something that brings me joy and fulfillment. I have always been passionate about film and entertainment and starting my own business allowed me to turn that passion into a career. I strongly believe that when you love what you do, it not only enhances your personal satisfaction but also contributes to the overall success of the business.

Additionally, I considered the impact my business could have on the community. It is important for me to create something that would benefit not only myself but also the people around me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets my films apart is the combination of compelling storytelling, unique perspectives, and a dedication to creating positive changes in misrepresented communities.

I strive to create films that not only entertain but also inspire, challenge societal norms, and provoke meaningful discussions. I believe in the power of storytelling to create impact and bring about positive change.

What I am most proud of and excited about is the opportunity to use the medium of film to shed light on important social issues and make a difference.

I have had the privilege of working on projects that tackle topics such as social inequality, police violence, environmental sustainability, and human rights.

Through my films, I aim to raise awareness, ignite empathy, and encourage viewers to take action.

To get to where I am today professionally, it has been a journey of persistence and faith. It was not an easy path, as nothing truly worthwhile comes without its challenges.

However, I made the decision to keep going despite setbacks and to have faith in my God given abilities and the impact my films can have.

During challenging times, I relied on the support of the people around me and sought motivation from various sources, including motivational podcasts, videos, inspiring Bible scriptures, and prayer.

These resources provided me with strength, guidance, and the resilience to overcome obstacles.

Along the way, I have learned valuable lessons. One of the most significant lessons I have embraced is the importance of not trying to fit in but rather embracing my unique thumbprint and perspective.

I believe that God has called me to be set apart and to use my films as a means of creating breakthrough for believers working in entertainment.

My films are a reflection of my passion for storytelling and my desire to make a difference. I aim to create a lasting legacy by inspiring and empowering others through the art of filmmaking.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1:

We would start with a delicious meal at Lobster & Beer for some fire lobster grilled cheese sandwiches.

Afternoon: We would take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful beaches and enjoy the sunset.

Evening: To cool off in the summer heat, we’d grab some desserts and water because it’s summer time in LA.

Day 2

Morning: We would visit Leimert Park, known for its vibrant art , culture and music scene. We’d spend the morning exploring the local shops, galleries, and connecting with creatives in the area.

Lunch: We’d have lunch at a simply wholesome or a hip restaurant in the city,

Afternoon: We would continue our exploration of the city, checking out iconic landmarks and a short hike.

Evening: To unwind, we’d find a cozy spot to watch a sunset then later a movie at the theatre to end the night.

Day 3-7:
The following days would be filled with a mix of activities, including: eating, dancing, working out and networking. Enjoying live music performances at local venues or attending a comedy show. Indulging in a variety of culinary experiences, trying out different cuisines from food trucks, trendy restaurants, and hidden gems.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As I reflect on my journey, there is one key influence that I would like to dedicate my shoutout to. I would like to acknowledge and celebrate my Haitian culture.

My Haitian heritage has played a significant role in shaping who I am today and has instilled in me a deep sense of resilience, determination, and strength.

The rich history and vibrant spirit of the Haitian people have served as a constant source of motivation and drive in pursuing my entrepreneurial endeavors.
