We had the good fortune of connecting with James Christian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was how do I achieve MY DREAMS instead of working for other people and helping them achieve theirs? How do I leave a legacy not just for my kids but also for black people as a whole, something ALL can be PROUD of. So let’s create something that society is missing or that society already has that I can contribute to.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well I have two companies that I run D Up Basketball and Teach 1 Reach 1 Foundation i am most proud and excited about having the opportunity to impact the youth and homelessness and foster care kids among other IMPACTFUL movements we have coming up. I am where I am today because of my faith and never stop or give up attitude and hard work and believing in myself. Believing in my self made it easy everything in life starts with YOU. Some of the lessons I learned along the way is this is your DREAM and no body else’s and everyone will NOT see your vision or believe in you or your vision but that is part of the inspiration to motivate you. What I want the world to know about me is I/WE are coming and WE will NOT STOP….
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely the beaches because the weather is AMAZING here. Than I am a big fan of Black Owned establishments restaurants, music venues, arts and views are important and surrounding yourself with and around the right energy. Some of cool places are Staples Center Microsoft theater, Novo , The Parlor, The Dime, Chocolate Sundays,
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well number one is GOD for guidance and discipline to execute HIS plan. My family and friends for the prayers and encouragement to keep impacting lives and finally my children for being my INSPIRATION.
