We had the good fortune of connecting with James Welsh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi James, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I started taking risks at a young age. I started a yard work business when I was 14, a painting company when I was 21. I knew that I would pursue a career in the entertainment industry from the time I was bit by the acting bug when I was in the play The Wizard of Oz in high school.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been artistic. I used to draw / sketch pictures when I was a kid. I loved drawing cartoons. I started playing music, writing poems / songs, playing the electric and acoustic guitars and bass guitar when I was in high school. I fell in love with acting and that is what I have always been drawn back to. I was in the second season of the series Dirty John which is currently streaming on different platforms. I just worked on a film called The American Society. I was in a play called “Roe” where I played about six different roles but the main role was of “Justice Harry Blackmun” who delivered the opinion on Roe vs Wade. That was at the Santa Monica Playhouse in Santa Monica California. I am currently enrolled in an Acting Conservatory LAPAC in Westwood California. I love the Meisner Technique but use them all. I believe in training hard like you are going into some sort of acting Olympics. I am currently producing a documentary about my podcast. I want to thank my co-host for approaching my in Tom Sizemore’s acting class and saying “hey, you want yo do a podcast together” Thank you Jim Francis Meza. Our podcast is called Jim and James Morning Podcast and is on YouTube (remember to subscribe) Spotify and Iheart Radio. We will be on more platforms soon. We’ve had so many great guests and I really don’t like leaving anyone out but some of our guests were Presley Tennant, the Sco Triplets, Billy Budnich, Caylee Cowan (Frank and Penelope), Mad Mike and AK from Pimp my Rid (MTV) Jeremy Luke, Angel Salazar…just to name a few.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Studio City and Hollywood. I would show them the studios we do our podcast in. Shout out to On Set Studios where actors can get the best self tapes for their auditions! Melrose Podcast Studios just for starters 😉 Then I would take them to Mel’s Diner in Santa Monica, The Good Neighbor Restaurant in Studio City, Birds in Hollywood, Universal City Walk, tge Hollywood sign, some local plays at my former Theatre Company “Theatre 68” Shout Out to my dear friend and Artistic Director who is the Artistic Director. That would get us started.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When it comes to acting / Entertaining

My father wanted me to pursue acting from the time we were packing up to move from Boston to California in 1978
These days, I draw inspiration from many friends and mentors in the business. One person in particular that you might of heard of helped build my confidence by telling me that I am talented, there’s room for me, it’s my time, one yes can change my life. That person is my girlfriend Loni Love who has a great 2nd book out where you can read about her journey, read a few pages about meeting me and see a picture of us together. The book is called “I Tried to Change So You Don’t Have To” by the incredibly talented and beautiful Loni Love

With my painting company
My high school friend’s father had a construction company in Newport Beach called King Construction. I was a poor boy from Costa Mesa and Mr. King knew that my father was a house painter. He also knew I had been painting for a few years during the summer, after school and on the weekends. A couple of years after high school, he coaxed me into doing jobs for him and people he knew. He taught me how to write a proposal, that I could rent equipment and gave me my first jobs. Thanks to Mr. King, Quality Painting Plus was founded in in 1988
