We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Laguilles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I live and work by the quote “Make it work!” by Tim Gunn/ Project Runway. In design, from concept through installation, there will always be challenges and you do have to “make it work” every single time. There are delays or a design doesn’t work as you had planned – you make it work. Problem solving is all part of the creative process and every challenge is a unique opportunity to learn, grow and make something unexpected beautiful.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Domaine Interior Design is an interior design business dedicated to helping homeowners redefine how they want to live and experience their homes. As owner and principal designer, my goal is to help homeowners live beautifully. From concept to installation, my design process is a true collaboration with each client to carefully understand what their goals are to achieve their ideal spaces. The start of every project is a conversation and throughout the entire project, listening is key. The design challenge of any space, whether its remodeling a Kitchen or reimagining a Master Bedroom, is an evolution – from concept through completion. Having the experience of working with some of the top designers and construction companies in the industry has given me the knowledge and expertise to share with my clients, working with them to deliver a truly unique and beautiful space to live, play and work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Los Angeles is so fun because there is so much to do and see! During the day, I would recommend a hike to the Hollywood Sign. A little bit of history and amazing views is one of the best souvenirs. A trip to the beach is an absolute must, especially Malibu and a tour of the Adamson House, the first house in Malibu. Another great day trip would be to Santa Barbara and Solvang for wine tasting and more great views of the California landscape. Food-wise, I love taking my guests to my favorite spots – Mozza, Pizzana, and The Old Place to name a few. LA has some of the best museums so a trip to the Getty and The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures followed by drinks and dinner at Fanny’s is definitely in order.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Los Angeles. I went there to study interior design and they gave me the foundation to start my career that has grown and flourished with a bright future ahead.
