We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Lebowitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is a combination of passion, work ethic, and strategy. One facotr without the others would not have brought me the success I’ve achieved so far! Throughout my career as a photographer and videographer I’ve had varying levels of each because I’ve experimented with different kinds of subjects. Only when I really nailed down my passion did the three come together to make me successful. It felt like the natural order of things you could say.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a videographer of “aerial arts” and “dance”, though 90% of my work is pole dancers, so let’s just call me a pole dance videographer. I think what I film in itself sets me apart, because I don’t know anyone else who films pole dancers the way that I do! What I love most about filming pole dancers is that they are empowered. I’ve been a pole dancer longer than I’ve been filming pole. I don’t know what took me so long to realize I should film what I am most passionate about, which is pole. I experienced a total transformation within myself because of pole dancing – in terms of open mindedness, sensuality, physicality, and spirituality. Through this journey, I thought, if everyone could experience this life-changing transformation, people would be so much happier. Finding opportunities to dance each day has made me happier, and in turn affected every aspect of my life – my relationships, my friendships, my career. It gave me the incentive to work extra hard on the videos I make, because I cared so much about what I was creating. It is hard to pull myself away from my computer sometimes because of how engrained I am in the process – and I hate sitting at the computer! My mission is twofold: to show viewers how empowered a person can be, through movement, and to inspire them to embark on a similar journey to transform their everyday lives. I want to inspire people to dance to feel good and get strong, because I know the journey will make this so. I believe your entire life is affected by how you feel day-to-day, and when you dance, it’s hard not to feel good. How I got into filming pole dancers…I was mainly doing food photography and little social media videos for small brands when I decided to ask one of my favorite pole teachers, Dru, if she wanted to do a couple video shoot trades in exchange for private lessons to help me train for an upcoming pole competition. I knew I wanted to film a pole dancer and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. As it naturally happens, once someone posts a video of themselves, others see and inquire. The first video was just OK, but the second was awesome, and brought a lot of eyes to my work, which still wasn’t much! The pole community isn’t that big fortunately, and I made a lot of virtual connections through instagram. That is entirely where my clientele has come from, so I take my Instagram very seriously when it comes to getting work. It took a LOT of effort getting myself out there, but I enjoyed the process, because I know I am on the right path.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, a pole studio in non-covid times. Of course. And any bougie coffee shop probably.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom has been my rock throughout my career, and has without a doubt contributed to my success. I wouldn’t say I was successful since the beginning – in fact – I was very much the opposite, even as I portrayed myself otherwise. My mom was always there supporting me though. As I lost each job I had for varying reasons, she asked, How could anyone make such a huge mistake!?” Haha. When I didn’t believe in myself, she always did; She has always expressed her amazement for my work ethic when no one else seems to notice… even myself. I could not imagine having made it this far without her constant support.
